As of today, the Trump administration has accused China of reneging, or going back on, a trade deal that was started in April. Because of this accusation, Trump has threatened to put high tariffs on China starting Friday. One reason that China seems to be reneging on the deal is that both sides have had economic developments that decreases the urgency of a deal. There could also be conflict if the deal is not met with the needs decided by both sides. Having an agreement from China would relieve any short-term conflict in the future.
Tariffs disrupt production and efficiency in the trade system. If Trump puts tariffs on China because of the accusations, there could be unforeseen consequences in U.S. trade. Chinese agreement seems to be the fair play in this situation so that present political tensions can decrease.
