On Tuesday, May 8, the state's capital decided in a narrow vote to legalize psilocybin, a naturally occurring psychedelic that is the active ingredient in "magic mushrooms." The drug is not legal until May 16, when results are certified. Medical researchers hope that psychedelic drugs will also be used to help treat cancer patients.
This ties back to Richard Nixon's War on drugs, which has turned out to be one of the biggest government failures in U.S. history.
