Colorado School Shooting - Sloan Daley

It was three days before the last day of school, and the students inside their english teachers classroom, Ms. Harper. They were in their last period of the day watching the movie “The Princess Bride” when one of their classmates walked in late and pulled out a gun. The gunman came in and startled the students, and all he yelled was ‘Don’t you move.’ Unfortunately, in this tragedy the world lost Kendrick Castillo, a gentle teenager who was fascinated by cars and engineering, lunged to stop the gunman and was shot and killed. Trying to save his classmates, he was killed and eight other students were sent to the hospital after they were shot. Kendrick was killed because he sacrificed his life, and who knows how many other students would have lost their lives if it wasn’t for his selfless actions. His death came only a week after a student at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte was killed as he tried to fight off another gunman. Another horrifying part of this event is that it occurred 10 minutes away from the infamous Columbine High School shooting in 1999.

This event can sadly be compared to many events. But since it was so near by, it reminds me of the devastating Columbine High School shooting in 1999. Many more lives were lost, however the intentions were the same cruel ones. From each shooting, the shooter was a student at the school that opened fire on their own classmates. Again, these shootings were 20 years apart and only 10 minutes away from each other. Sadly  we keep getting news that a new shooting happened. Hopefully these begin to decrease and will eventually disappear.

  2. I hate the fact that our society will cry over Castillo's death but, most likely, won't actually bring about change. - Daniella Castanheira

  4. The fact that our country hasn’t changed anything regarding gun control even after the continuation of these incidents disgusts me. Our generation has got to find a way to change this in the future to keep our children safe.
