A Massachusetts man, James Jordan, is charged for murder from allegedly injuring two hikers on the Appalachian Trail. Jordan will make his first court appearance on Monday morning, charged with one murder, and one assault. Neither of the victims have been identified. US Attorney Thomas Cullen is glad that the police department is going to get the situation under control. After a call, the police team was able to get a whole force out to rescue the victim and take the attacker into custody. The injured woman had walked six miles before finding other hikers and receiving help.
This story is extremely terrifying and mournful at the same time. To image going out for a hike, supposedly just you and a significant other and being attacked by a man with a machete and without anyone nearby? Absolutely frightening! I am so sorry for both of the victims, and I agree with Mr. Cullen in that I am glad the situation is going to be figured out. I had no previous knowledge to possible machete attacks on the Appalachian Trail, but I am surprised such an event occurred, and I am curious as to why. One small silver lining to this event is that a victim was still able to survive, and the attack was done without a gun shot. I am going to compare this moment to Harper's Ferry, I understand that these are totally different topics, as Harper's Ferry was an unsuccessful attempt at a slave riot that quickly got shut down, but I compare them in that they both involved violence with dated tools for the violence, and while Harper's Ferry was sadly shut down, I wish this attack in the Appalachian trials was unsuccessful.
It is a terrifying experience and people should be careful who they surround themselves with
