Same Sex Marriage- Sanaya Gangal

Summary of Article:
Austria recently announced that from 2019, same-sex marriage is legal. Before this news, the constitutional law restricted "same-sex unions to civil partnerships...", but now their decision puts them in line with many other European nations such as; Germany, Spain, Belgium, Netherlands, France and the United Kingdom.

Analysis:
I hope that more countries make same-sex marriage legal because it is discriminatory to not let LGBTQ couples have the privileged that straight couples have. I'm glad that Austria is making same-sex marriage legal, but I shouldn't take them two years to finally have this law set in place. More laws of same-sex marriage should be passed faster and in more countries.

  1. I agree. Passing this law is such a huge step, but it's a bummer that they have to wait so long.

  2. I agree that this is an important step in Europe's acceptance of same- sex couples. It's important for these social changes to happen in order to raise awarness for other countries to change their marriage laws.

  3. I agree. Hopefully other countries see the changes being made and soon follow them and make these changes to themselves for the better.

    1. Are you implying America is one? We are at the top of hw economic ladder and leading through precedents in almost everything we do. I know it’s easy to get clouded by people you don’t like, namely the president in your case(I’m just guessing) but it’s important to know that this is still the best place on earth to be. Regardless of who you are.

    2. Yeah also considering the fact that we legalized same-sex marriage 4 years before them if you go by the 2019 date is kind of contradictory. I agree that this is a great step for Austria but I wouldn't say that it's better than what we have done.
