Madison Harvey - Special glasses open whole new world for colorblind boy

Summary:  Cayson Irlbeck a fourth grader in Johnston, Iowa has been colorblind since birth.  In his case he was unable to tell the difference between blues and purples and reds and greens.  That was until a few weeks ago when he tried on a special pair of glasses which they had purchased online.  The Irlbeck family discovered the glasses when Cayson researched them on the internet.  The research said there was only fifty percent chance of them working but the Irlbecks's said the $300 dollars they cost was worth the investment.  When Cayson tried on the glasses for the first time he said, "It was instant."  "I knew right away that something had changed (and) how bright everything was."  Cayson's new EnChroma glasses use an optical filter that removes certain wavelengths of light and allows colorblind people better perceive color.  When he first tried on the glasses the family recorded the event which was an emotional moment for the family with tears of joy.  "That was so amazing." Cayson said.  "It was so colorful.  It was weird (because) I had never seen those colors before, but I kind of knew what they were.  I don't know.  It was just awesome."

Analysis:  This story was reported by KCCI news reporter Marcus McIntosh and posted on CNN's website to inform the public of the good news that had taken place.  They also showed the home video so the audience could see just how this boy's life was changed because of these glasses.  I'm not sure how new these glasses are to the market but I'm sure there are millions of people that can benefit from them.
