Summary: On International Women's Day the museums in Italy are going to be free for all women. International Women's Day is on March 8. The ticket admission project is part of "8 Marzo al Museo" or March 8 at the Museum. The idea is to celebrate the feminine world. Not only are women granted free admission, the museums are also making a point to feature female artists and works that celebrate notable women such as "saints and prostitutes, goddesses and commoners, intellectuals and artists, actresses and martyrs, writers and poets, mothers, Madonnas and revolutionaries." The museum's Instagram account is also featuring the works for those who can't make it on the day.
Analysis: I think that it is a really cool idea to do this. There are lots of women who can't afford to buy tickets to go to an art museum, so they miss out on the beautiful and educational art. I think that especially young girls will find this empowering and inspiring. This could relate to the Women's Marches in the United States this year. Both are examples of women empowering other women.

Kiri Luckey: This is great! I feel women don't get enough recognition and this is a step in changing that which is good.
ReplyDeleteThis is really cool. It's good to show, not just men, but also women that there are women in all careers, regardless of the seemingly majority of men in them.

It's awesome that so many people are showing support for women and hopefully women's status will continue to grow!
