A 10 year old named Daniel Ramirez died due to a mysterious illness. His parents reported that after observing flu-like symptoms, they took him to the hospital. At the hospital he was paralyzed, and eventually died. There are eight other similar cases in Washington being investigated for a likely cause. A disease called Acute Flaccid Myelitis (AFM), is a similar disease to polio. Doctors had suspected that Daniel had possibly died from AFM, but are not 100% sure. One of the eight cases being investigated was deemed AFM.

Polio is a somewhat outdated disease, and the fact that there could potentially be another similar disease as a threat, is shocking. In older times, not as many doctors were present to help diagnose a medical problem. Now that there is an abundance of doctors, we can figure out a probable cause more efficiently. I also think it is very necescary to ensure that children are properly vaccinated at the accurate times, so that more potential diseases can be prohibited. The purpose of this article is to inform the masses that there is a potential threat, and that we should be aware of it.

  3. This is very upsetting to hear. It's funny how we think some diseases have left and won't show up again but here they come to prove us wrong

  4. This is so scary! Hopefully it doesn't spread. It's crazy to think how many diseases could potentially happen that our medical system isn't aware of.
