Same-sex couples wed in Alabama despite efforts to block them by, Harrison Epstein

http://www.cnn.com/2015/02/09/us/alabama-same-sex-marriages/index.html

In Alabama the first Stare Recognized same-sex marriage occurred. It was quite an ordeal and there was a huge attempt by one of the supreme court judges to stop it, he did this by allowing judges in Alabama to prohibit marriage licenses to same-sex couples. This action caused a huge uproar and infuriated many people throughout the country.

I am not going to talk about any sort of "yea" or "neigh" for this particular topic, I am just going to say that I am intrigued by this addition of Alabama into the states that allow same-sex marriage. Obviously when you think of religious tolerance the first place you think of is not Alabama, for the love of Pete it only outlawed slavery in its state constitution a few years ago! (I'm not joking look it up)  So it is interesting to see the changes occurring throughout the country in political ways. If we look back at the progressives and their desires for less conservatism, we can see how similar some of the things happening in out time are to the kinds of things they tried to do. Again I tried to tread lightly on this topic because I know many people have very strong views on this sort of thing so I hope I didn't offend anyone and managed to stay fairly unbiased.

  1. You did manage to stay fairly unbiased, although I didn't know that about Alabama - how weird.

  2. Alabama is quite.... Quite a state. I knew that a college in Alabama is trying to make it illegal for African Americans to even apply to the college, but I did not know the outlawed slavery just a few years ago... And I never expected a same sex marriage in that state for quite some time! That's exciting news, and I do try to say that as lightly as I can. (Nice job staying as neutral as possible)

  3. Alabama is still in the past. The state needs to move on with the rest of the world and stop discriminating.
