"al Qaeda kills American hostages during US raid" by Sam Schaffer

An American hostage under al-Qaeda captivity was killed in an attempted rescue raid made by US Navy SEALs in Yemen, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel said this Saturday.
The hostage, who was being held in a compound 10 miles from the Yemen shore, was Luke Somer, a photojournalist who had been taken into captivity months beforehand. He was held with another captive, South African Pierre Korkie, a teacher. They were both fatally shot when the SEAL team was detected approximately 100 yards outside of the terrorist compound. The SEALs had trekked 10 kilometers to the location, and they lost the element of surprise upon coming within sight of the compound. In the ensuing battle, the team suffered no casualties; however, the two civilian hostages were killed by terrorists within the walls of the compound. President Obama released an announcement in which he condemned the terrorist group, and gave his condolences to the families (including the South African) of those who were killed.
This isn't good guys. It sucks that those people died.
