Ohio Abortion law-- By Diya Ghayal

Summary: It was recently found out that an 11 year old in Ohio was raped multiple times by a 26 year old man. However, there was a law passed in April stating that an abortion is illegal if the baby's heartbeat is detected, which is about 5-7 weeks into the pregnancy. (Before most women even find out they are pregnant.) There are no exceptions (rape or incest) included in this law. Since this law has not come into full effect yet, this 11 year old girl will not be forced to uphold the law quite yet. However, in 2017 there were 4000 girls that were raped in Ohio... this unfair law will definitely cause future uprisings and protests.

Analysis: This article was written a few days ago, but was last updated on May 14, Tuesday, at 9:29 p.m. This means that the information presented is relatively new and accurate. This article was probably targeted towards those who live in Ohio and are unaware of this new law that was passed, and/or those affected by past rape/incest. This law relates to the court case: Roe v. Wade, which was passed in 1973. This court case stated that women have the "right to privacy", and to personally decide if they want an abortion or not. This article informed me of the dilemmas that are faced by young women on a daily basis, and how some are unfortunate when it comes to abortion/contraceptives/rape, etc. It is unfair, that this law is being passed because it takes away the free will and privacy of a woman.

  1. I think it is extremely sad that this young girl has to carry this with her for the rest of her life but for her to possibly be charged and life her life behind bars is ridiculous. So many women are going to go through the worse because of these laws . -Jendayi Harris
