The Democrat from Alabama who sparked outrage with his remarks defending abortion attacked Donald Trump Jr. saying he's "proof" that mothers should have the right to abort their children. State Rep. John Rogers of Birmingham caused an uproar while expressing his opposition to the approved bill that would outlaw all abortions in Alabama with the exemption of women whose pregnancies cause a risk to their health. "Some kids are unwanted, so you kill them now or you kill them later. You bring them in the world unwanted, unloved, you send them to the electric chair. So, you kill them now or you kill them later," Rogers said.
abortion should not be defended, and it should not be legal, you get pregnant because you were incapable of knowing what you are getting yourself into, and once that kid is there, you don't have the right to take its life away. sure, they may be unwanted but its better to set them up for adoption that killing them. it doesn't matter if they are out yet or not, they are still living beings

Abortion is a very serious topic that should be handled maturely. The fact that Rogers thought it was appropriate to say that Trump should have been aborted is alarming. No matter what your opinion on Trump is, some things are best left unsaid, especially if you're career is politically-oriented. - Daniella Castanheira
ReplyDeleteFirst off, while I too oppose this bill, Rogers was extremely insensitive to all women who have had to make the choice of getting an abortion. Everyone's story is different- some do it for their personal health, some do to because they don't want a baby, and some can't support a baby financially. (Note: it is extremely expensive to give birth to a baby in the US. Some people can't afford to have a baby and put it up for adoption.) Here's the thing: the choice is up to the woman and her doctor. No one else should have a say in whether or not this person should be having an abortion. There is a thing called bodily autonomy. It means that you cannot be forced to donate organs, blood, or tissue, even if you are dead. By forcing a woman to have a baby, you are saying that she has fewer rights than a corpse. This is why it bothers me that so many men have opinions on abortion - people without a uterus will never have to fear getting pregnant after getting raped. They will never have to worry about having an unwanted pregnancy. This is a privilege that many don't think about. Try to put yourself into other peoples' shoes. Abortion is a choice, and it's not always an easy one. You are allowed to have an opinion, but stop being insensitive and ignorant. (note 2.0: Due to comprehensive issues, I said "women", but I want to clarify that I don't mean to exclude trans men - this includes all people with a uterus.)
