Recently, the CDC reported that the number of measles outbreaks has been the highest since it was eradicated in 2000. These outbreaks have occurred in 22 states and affected at least 695 people. NYC responded to these outbreaks by banning unvaccinated children from public places. The outbreak was mostly in the Orthodox Jewish community and some of these people are worried that the city will try to target them. Measles is an easily spread disease that can be transferred through air. The effects of it include horrible fevers and rashes. It can be easily prevented by getting vaccinated from it. The CDC is also planning on launching a full campaign in order to help gain support for vaccinations.
I don't understand why people would choose not to vaccinate their kid. Before vaccines, there were uncurable diseases that were often times fatal. It is a priveledge today to have them to help us live longer. There is a little to none chance that the vaccine will have any harmful side effects as well. This relates to the beginning of US history when the Native American population was nearly wiped out due to contracting European diseases because they hadn’t been introduced to them.
