Red Cross reports that the Cholera outbreak in Yemen may reach 1 million people by the end of this year. Cholera, a diarrheal illness that kills tons of people every year, is spread by consuming food or water that contains fecal matter. In March 2015, a civil war broke out in Yemen which contributed to famine, the destruction of their Healthcare System, and spreading the worst outbreak in the world. Cholera is curable, but these people die within hours because of the famine. Although most people have never heard of cholera, since it is rare in urbanized countries, the outbreaks are deadly to thousands and should be noticed
Most people have heard of the game Oregon trail, which shows you what life is like traveling the Oregon Trail. Within the game, settlers can die from a number of diseases, one of which being cholera. The Trail connected the Missouri River to valleys in Oregon and was made by fur traders to only be passable by foot or horseback. The number one killer of the actual Oregon Trail, cholera, hit its peaks in the 1850s; so why is this still a global pandemic? We have the ability to help these people dying from a curable disease, so why don't we? Industrialized countries are, for the most part, safe from this disease, but the people of Yemen are slowly dwindling away and no one is there to help them.
