Theatre Refuses to show Beauty and the Beast over "Gay" Moment- Abbey Winiger

SUMMARY-  Disney's new, live-action musical version of "Beauty and the Beast" won't be the guest of a drive-in theater in Alabama because of a new, gay twist.
"It is with great sorrow that I have to tell our customers that we will not be showing 'Beauty and the Beast,'" read a message on the Facebook page of the Henagar Drive-In Theatre in the northeast portion of the state. The message was removed Friday evening, but CNN affiliate WHNT in Huntsville, Alabama, has it here The New York Daily news calls LeFou "Disney's first, unambiguously gay character" in its rave review. Variety's reviewer says LeFou is "silly and fawning, but I must have missed the memo where that spells 'gay.'"Condon told the British gay magazine Attitude, "LeFou is somebody who on one day wants to be Gaston and on another day wants to kiss Gaston. He's confused about what he wants. It's somebody who's just realizing that he has these feelings.""If we can not take our 11-year-old granddaughter and 8-year-old grandson to see a movie we have no business watching it," the message said. "If I can't sit through a movie with God or Jesus sitting by me then we have no business showing it. We are first and foremost Christians.

ANALYSIS/SYNTHESIS- Prior to reading this article I had heard about the massive distrust of the new Beauty and the Beast movie. This article was written by Jay Croft on March 3rd, he has the opinion that a gay character should not have an impact on who enjoys the movie. I agree with Croft that just because of his sexuality people should not totally dismiss a film. This is absolutely ridiculous that these people can judge something before even seeing it and drafting their own opinions. Beauty and the beast shouldn't be marked for having a gay character, but on how excellent it is or how well it was shot, or how the acting was spectacular. This reminds me of the civil rights movement, and how people can stand up for what they believe and what they are against.

  1. I agree! I think that this is ridiculous and the movie theatre is completely disregarding the movie altogether because of something like this. I also agree that it should not be marked because of the character over how excellent it is as a movie or how well the story was portrayed!
