{Ciaja Beck 4th period}Howard University Professor Examined Black Student in Mock Slave Auction

Summary: At an historical black college, Howard University an white Professor did a mock slave auction to demonstrate a visual representation of how white masters would pick their slaves. Officials states that one of the witnesses spoke out and responded,

The instructor even allegedly told the me to “Turn around so we can see your buttocks.” 

“He asked me to show my butt to the class so that he could get a better sense of my worth, and had the audacity to say that it was uncomfortable for him, too, because he’s a white man,” the student said. 

Analysis: I do agree that the professor could have demonstrated the book differently,why not just give the students the text and some visualization exercises followed by a quiz instead of making a role-playing game of it? I get the idea of internalizing the perspective of an enslaved ancestor, but surely there’s less transgressive methods to subject the students to. We learned so much from Douglas without doing a role play of it at Booker T Washington High School.
