Hepatitis C is a viral infection that can cause many people serious and permanent liver damage. The main  goal of treatment is to clear the virus from the body  and prevent liver problems. The only soloution of curing this is doing that involved inconvenient and painful injections of interferon and a pill called ribavirin. That therapy is known for causing toxic side effects and has been compared to "low-grade chemo." Unfortunately it doesn't always work that well, these traditional drugs only  offer a 50% cure rate at most.  Now more medications that directly target the virus have  gained approval. These medications offer a cure, instead of a partial solving or clearing of the virus.  They have fewer side effects and results occur much swifter, allowing the patients to be in  treatment a shorter amount of time compared to interferon and other drugs.
I think this is amazing and such a huge step for modern medicine. It is huge testament to how much we have come and bettered ourselves as a society. This advancement will change so many individuals lives in a positive way.
