David Thweatt is the superintendent of the Harrold, Texas school district. He not only sees himself as an educator but he also sees himself as a protector of the 120 or so children in his care, therefore enforcing the Guardian Plan. The Guardian Plan allows teachers to carry concealed handguns during school hours on school property. This plan is the first-of-its kind in the country, Thweatt claims that educators are not only there to educate but they are also there to protect.
I think that this is a very controversial topic. This directly applies to the second amendment, how people perceive it. There has been great arguments involving this amendment in the Bill of Rights. I think that guns can be dangerous when they are misuse, but if they are used for a good reason or cause, I think that it is a great idea. Thweatt has good intentions with this plan, but we shall see how this plays out, because there is a great risk to this.

I honestly don't know how I feel about this 'Guardian Plan' that's taken effect, because in one light I know there are many people who see guns as the safest way to protect oneself, yet allowing teachers to carry guns into a "safe" educational atmosphere does not seem logical or wise. Both sides of the argument are valid, yet bringing an extremely unsafe tool into the hands of teachers in a safe educational environment does not seem, to me, to be the best for the future of our schools.

Is carrying a weapon around children really the most effective way to protect the safety of the students? And even with this "Guardian Plan" intact, it doesn't assure the teacher actually knows how to use the gun to protect from an intruder.
