Criticizing Obama's Daughters- Glenna Loughlin 5th

This article by Bill Trot addresses criticism of the Obama daughters on Facebook by a lady, Elizabeth Lauten. The criticism was that the girls did not seem amused or were not paying attention during a Whiteh House pre- Thanksgiving ceremony. Lauten says that the girls should at least be interested in what their father is saying and then takes a stab at criticizing the president and his wife by saying the girls do not have good role models.
This criticism really bothers me because as a teenager it is not the girl's jobs to "be engaged" with their fathers events. They are teenagers. It was not their choice for their father to be the president and as long as they show up and are not disturbing anyone, no one should criticize them. It made it even worse that Lauten referred to a Thanksgiving event. Thanksgiving is a holiday of giving and family. Why target them at all, much less on a family holiday?

  1. Yeah I agree. Even if they were bored, I wouldn't blame them. They have to listen to their dad make very long speeches all the time.

  2. You are absolutely right. Also, why does this lady feel compelled to comment in the first place? It seems to me that she needs to mind her own business.

  3. We see these girls as sweethearts for the country, but in actuality they are average teens. They have to be surrounded by politics and speeches all day long, its no surprise they could get bored.
