5/4/18 - Ashton Benn

Nursing is an extremely competitive field to get into for college, and many are rejected every year. However lately the number of applicants turned away is the highest its ever been, but why is this an issue? The U.S. is experiencing a nursing shortage as the nation ages and requires more care. Currently, the demand exceeds the supply and many hospitals are hiring, but there aren't enough nurses coming out of the colleges to hire. Nursing is sought after because of its flexible schedule, high pay, and good cause.
So many dreams have been crushed by colleges and it breaks my heart that so many people are turned down. I don't understand why colleges can't accept more people into their programs given the present circumstance. I hope that the country can resolve this conflict and prepare for the years to come. This can be connected to the baby boom generation and the way it has changed different parts of society as the baby boomers grow older. The markets for different products shift and change and coming up soon, there will need to be an increase in medicare to support the retirement of the boomers.

  1. I am also confused at the reason why nursing is so exclusive now, it shouldn't be available for all but being so exclusive is risky as some nurses will eventually resign for various reasons.

  2. This is so weird! I agree, I hope that colleges can figure out a way to increase their capacities in their nursing programs to meet the demand of nurses, because they're too important for there to be a shortage of them.

  3. Olivia Wall- I agree that that is very odd and I do hope that the shortages don't last long as that could cause more potential problems.

  6. Nurses are one of the most important jobs. I wish that there would be more space in the nursing schools for the people who want to pursue nursing as a career.
