Townley Jordan- Trump's Planned Parenthood Proposition

Summary: The White House has presented the idea of preserving Planned Parenthood’s funds IF they discontinue providing abortions. This news comes as the president and his team are working on their first round of budget proposals. Planned Parenthood receives more than $500 million in federal funding according to their yearly reports. The nonprofit organization provides many services, including cancer screenings, sexually transmitted disease testing and, most controversially, abortion, however, no federal funding goes toward abortion. The actions of the president and his team will not be the first time Planned Parenthood has gone against Republicans.  Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood tweeted her response to Trump's latest announcement, vowing not to "back down in the face of threats or intimidation”, and saying, “We believe protecting the ability of women to determine our own futures is not only a Planned Parenthood value - it's an American value.”

Analysis: It is so frustrating to me that Donald Trump is trying to take away a woman’s right to have an abortion, it’s fine that he disagrees with it, because everyone is entitled to their own opinion. However, I do not think it is okay to disregard the large amount of people who support abortions and say that it’s his opinion is irrefutably correct and he wants to impose it on everyone in the country just because he thinks it is wrong. I knew that he had this view from the beginning, but I did not think he would act on it so quickly or that he would give Planned Parenthood and ultimatum about something that his federal funding wouldn’t even go towards.
