Summary: In Vancouver this past week, a young, 4-year old boy went in for a normal crown procedure. Sadly, after the procedure the boy did not wake up and they began doing chest compressions when they noticed he wasn’t breathing. He was rushed to the hospital, but soon late he died. The mom was in complete shock and was wondering why this happened because her son went to this special dentist since her son had special needs. It’s possible that an overdose of anesthesia may have killed the boy though the dentist clinic at fault claims they’ve never had an accident like this in all their years.
Analysis: Though there are stories like this on the news very often, it can be alarming to certain people to hear. It’s a warning to any dentist clinics and anesthetist out there to be overly cautious each time you perform on a patient. When it comes to anesthesia, it’s important that all the math done to calculate how much used per patient is correct. During the sixties when medicine for pregnant women was made to help with morning sickness and miscarriages, there were some unfortunate side effects. Some brought child abnormalities for newborns, so soon after drug reforms came into play to help with these issues.

This is extremely sad! I hope that this is a wake up call for all of the professionals in this field that you need to be precise and careful around children.
