Scientist have cloned the Zika Virus by Mattie Whisler 9th period Flex

Scientist in London have successfully cloned the Zika virus that affects new born babies. This mosquito born virus increases microcephaly which causes new born children to have smaller heads and underdeveloped brains. Scientists at The University of Texas in Galveston have been able to genetically engineer the virus so that other scientists can observe it in a test tube or petri dish. This will help find the cure for the virus. Scientist Pei-Yong Shi told CNN that his team has recently tested the virus on mosquitoes and mice which then eventually developed neurological diseases. If scientist can somehow alter the virus to create a vaccine trials on animals and people will soon be underway.

This is such a relief that scientists are close to finding a vaccine for Zika. This reminds me of when West Nile was a big problem in the world. Especially since it was also mosquito born.
