Former Kindertransport kids urge U.K. to take Syrian children - Kate Fehan 8th Period
In the late 1930s, the "Kindertransport" system was started when anti-Jewish sentiment got worse in Europe. Nearly 10,000 children were taken to the U.K. from areas under Nazi control. Many of the children that are still alive are advocating on behalf of Syrian refugee children. Because of increasing pressure from conservatives in Britain, Prime Minister David Cameron has been voting against immigration bill amendments and speaking against allowing immigrants into the country. Many past refugees are disappointed in this change and say the generosity of the British government in the 1930s is the only reason they survived the war. This attitude that we have developed of seeing children in need as a nuisance that can just be turned away, is disgusting and needs to stop ASAP. While the U.K. and the U.S. have their own problems, both countries are very lucky and among the wealthiest in the world. We need to be doing more, not less than the poorer countries in Europe.

I don't know why you wouldn't want to help people who are suffering not of their own accord.
