"For Women in Advertising, it's Still a 'Mad Men' World" Julia Plummer pd 1.

In the series "Mad Men," the life of a receptionist is described, and the sexual harassment and degradation women experienced during that time is highlighted, and made very clear. On tv, these actions taken by men towards women seem to be exaggerated, and seem like this type of behavior is a thing of the past, and women are taken far more seriously in the workplace now. However, this is untrue. While there has been an improvement in this, it's still a big problem that needs to be addressed. Women's ideas aren't taken as seriously as those of their male counterparts, and are obviously still paid less to the dollar than men.

America claims to be a progressive nation, with equal opportunity for all, but that's kind of a stretch. We still have a very long way to go before men recognize women as equals, and respect us fully. The world of "Mad Men" is still very much alive, and while it's been slightly watered down, these problems still face us.

  1. I always seems like the idea of America is better than what America really is. Women have been fighting for so long to gain equal rights but still have been unable to obtain EQUALITY. It's not like women are trying to become superior, just equal. It's really not that hard yet, even after about 168 years since the Seneca Falls meeting, women are still not considered equal to men.

  2. I wish we could fix social standards like this quickly, but sadly this ideology takes time. Too long in fact....(Alejandra Hernandez 6th period)
