"Dogs and Disabilities" - Connor Coleman (8th Period)

Men and dogs have always been best friends but it just got even more adorable. Seph Ware, a 14 year old boy, is just like everyone else, however, he has one difference, he was born with a genetic disorder that would make his muscles weaker and weaker over time. This disorder is known as Duchenne Muscular dystrophy. Seph has a dog named Presley. Presley is no ordinary dog, he is a special service dog, and he goes with Seph to school every day, and the relationship and help of his dog with the school has been so remarkable, the dog even got a photo in the yearbook! The dog is extremely supportive and helpful for Seph, and he is legally allowed to have the dog with him at all times.

This can relate to the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) that was passed in 1990. The law refuses people with disabilities to be discriminated against in all areas of public life such as transportation, applying for jobs, and enrolling in school. The ADA has many similarities to discrimination laws that were set in place during the Civil Rights movements.

All in all, so much can be accomplished to not discriminate a person for how they are born, but let's face it- dogs help.
