Summary: Following his dropout from the Presidential race, Kasich has announced he will not serve as Trump's VP, and still harbors uneasiness with Trump being the republican nominee. He disagrees with his doctrines, and would not support him unless a lot of his views, stances, and approaches change. He also announced he will not serve as the third party republican canidate. He views this as silly, inappropriate, and not constructive. He considers his daughters, and what they would think i he one opposed Trump, and later switched and supported him.
Analysis: This relates to American history in the fact that there were many third party canidates before Kasich. For example, Abraham Lincoln ran as a third party canidate, won and helped to progress the US on racial equality by abolishing slavery. Also, some consider good old Teddy Roosevelt to be one of the most successful third party canidates in history. Lastly, this relates to US history because it has been a pretty outrageous race, and a lot of Trump's tactives include an appeal to nativism, as seen in the election of 1800, and during the 1900's after the mass of immigration to the united states. The author seems unbiased to the situation, but it does draw to light that Trump isn't a man reasonable people want to support.

Why would Kasich let his daughters' opinions on Trump sway his support? I'm not a politician, but that just doesn't seem like effective politics.
