Michael Barbaro and Megan Twohey's article "Crossing the Line: How Donald Trump Behaved With Women in Private" was published by the New York Times on May 14, 2016. These writers have spent six weeks interviewing over fifty women who have interacted with Donald Trump over the course of his life and some of the stories they told are really awful. Although he does have a good reputation for giving women job opportunities in his companies and promoting them into high positions, he has on multiple occasions shamed them for gaining weight and addressed them demeaningly as "honey" or "dear." Additionally, his involvement in the Miss Universe company has at times been borderline inappropriate. Once, he called all the contestants out before the competition and categorized them into two groups: ones that he thought were attractive and ones he did not. Trump, however, denies that many of the events detailed in the article ever occurred.
This is yet another example of the classic "he said she said" scenario which has played a major role throughout history. One of these examples was during Judge Clarence Thomas' confirmation hearings when Anita Hill, a former employee, accused him of sexually harassing her. Although Congress sided with Thomas and confirmed to the Supreme Court, the event did shine a light on the problems women face when being sexual harassed.
I think that everyone needs to take the time and read this article. It is extremely powerful to hear firsthand accounts about how Donald Trump, who could possibly be our president, treats women. People need to consider the accusations presented and decide for themselves whether they want a president who potentially sexually harasses women and demeans them on a regular basis.

Donald trump is just a man with a total lack of morals. He has no care for anyone but himself. His temper as well is an issue something that I believe heavily clouds his judgement. Finally yes he has a terrible tract record when it comes to women. To him women seem to be some sort of glorified object. It shows no sense of adulthood, maturity or just common decency.
ReplyDeleteI watched a video a while back on what Trump says to and about women compared to what Obama says to and about women, and the difference was astounding. Trump treats women as items that have the purpose of being looked at and nothing else. That is so wrong and I honestly cannot believe people would give someone like this their vote for PRESIDENT of the UNITED STATES.
ReplyDeleteOh yea I read this and it was completely disgusting. He says his father had more traditional morals than he does and I would never have liked to met his father. He even has the miss America contestants pitted against each other by their looks and judges his own daughter constantly. He knows that women work harder than men so he hires them, but he has the "ugly" ones hide when people come to inspect the building and only wants "beautiful" assistants to go out and get lunch in the Trump company's name. I can't believe anyone would marry him or want to vote for him as president.
