The first African American President Barack Obama will be taking a trip towards the end of his presidency to Hiroshima Japan. On the dates of May 21 through the 28th President Obama will be meeting with Hiroshima's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to discuss important matters. However, there will not be an apology made on behalf of The United States of America for the bombings in 1945.
Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombs are credited as the two nuclear bombs that ended WWII. The bomb which was dropped on August 6th in 1945 killed around 140,000 people and injured around 100,000. The bomb that changed the world was nicknamed "Little Boy" was led by Colonel Paul Tibbets. The reason why Hiroshima was chosen was the convenient weather that the city was having that day. The plane which dropped the nuclear bomb was the Enola Gay and when dropped the bomb was over several million degrees.
Barack Obama will be the first U.S president to visit Hiroshima after the bombings. Jimmy Carter did visit the site but it was after his Presidency. Ben Rhodes, Obama's communications adviser, told reporters "Mr. Obama will not revisit the decision to use the atomic bomb at the end of WWII. Instead, he will offer a foward looking vision focused on our shared future."
That sounds like it's gonna be an uncomfortable trip for everybody. But also it's good to improve democratic relations
