Yesterday, thousands of people from all over the Northeast came together to speak against the oil trains in the small communities of the Northeast. The protest began in Lincoln Park but after that, the group split up. Some people sat on the train tracks on the Port of Albany, whereas others advocated for the people that live in the Ezra Prentice Apartment Complex because trains that come into the Capitol Region pass 15 feet behind it. The main reason for this protest was to keep the communities of the Northeast safe. Children play on courts extremely close to the train tracks and so many people live in Albany. If a train blew up, this would cause several fatalities.
As years go by, citizens are becoming more involved in their communities. Protests like this engage people in the community and they can make decisions about these issues if they affect their lives. Even if one decides to join a protest like this, their reason for protesting can be a completely different reason than someone else.
