Mullah Akhtar Mohammad Mansour, a known Taliban leader, was killed in a United States airstrike in Pakistan targeting him. Obama announced that this is a milestone in the mission to bring prosperity to Afghanistan. He also made sure to remark that this will not lead to America entering combat. Mansour and another combatant likely were killed. Mansour was a significant figure in not only the Taliban rise to power but also the Haqqani method and al Quaeda and their opposition to U.S. Forces. It is reported that the Taliban is still targeting American forces and coalition forces; threats have been made. Kerry, an American leader, says that this was a step to unite Afghanistan. This man has been responsible for numerous attacks. America had alerted Pakistan and Afghanistan before. However. Pakistanis say the contrary and voice their anger of this "violation of sovereignty". Other leaders said that while the strike was never cleared, they weren't opposed.
I feel like violence is not always the answer, and the death of one leader is a short time fix. However, this leader has ended countless lives and was oppressive to his people.
This synthesizes tl the Vietnam war. Americans did not find out what was to happen until it happened, and America often opposed the attacks and got little to no input, kind of like now. However, this is a big step I believe to peace in the Middle East.

It's so hard for citizens back here to really understand everything that's going on over there. I feel like many times we are quick to judge military actions, but what do we really know about how military operations work in the end?
