A boy and his service dog: Yearbook besties-- Demi Tomasides 1st period

Okay, this is possibly the sweetest and best article I have read all year. It's about this boy, Steph Ware, that has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a disorder where the muscles become weaker and weaker, and his service dog, Presley. Presley accompanies Steph everywhere, helping him turn the lights on and off, fetch his shoes, and even run to get help if Steph falls. Like I said, the two are together all the time, even in school. Steph's middle school acknowledged that Presley was just as apart of the school as any other student. So much so, in fact, that they added a spot in the yearbook for Presley.

You know, it's hard to read the news now-a-days because of all the sad and corrupt things that seem to overtake it, but here is some good news! It reminds me of back in 1990 when President H. W. Bush signed the Americans with Disabilities Act, which outlawed any discrimination against people with disabilities, as well as having their employers provide reasonable accommodations. Changing a law is one thing, but changing a mind is another and this article just goes to show how necessary steps are being taken towards social equality.

Presley, a service dog, appears alongside her companion, seventh-grader Seph Ware, in the yearbook for Good Hope Middle School in West Monroe, Louisiana.

  1. This is so cute! Because the dog is such a huge key factor in Steph's life and the school's I loved how they took that into account making a special picture for him in the yearbook.
