"House Rep Dennis Hastert Imprisoned for Child Molestation" by Jack Higgins period 6

On Wednesday morning, renowned House Speaker Dennis Hastert, a man revered for his upstanding public service, was sentenced to 15 months in prison for illegal financial transactions to continue his cover-up of sexual crimes he committed over 50 years ago. Back when Hastert was a history teacher and football coach for high schoolers in the early 1960s, he had molested several of his students and athletes and has since done all in his power to keep his actions under wraps. Hastert is one of the most high-profile politicians in all American history to be sentenced to serve time in prison, and it was very shocking to so many people who know him. He was not, however, charged with any sexual misconduct, for reasons beyond my comprehension, but only with the crime of illegal payments. Hopefully he dies in jail and his victims never have to worry about retribution for his crimes again.

  1. That's awful to hear, but I'm glad he's not getting away with it. I wonder what his victims were thinking, with it being so long ago and he's only now being held accountable.

  3. I think it's horrible that he's not being charged with sexual misconduct, the crime that started this all. I am glad nevertheless that he is going to prison.

  4. I think that he should be charged with sexual misconduct, but at least he is not getting away with it.

  5. This reminds me of how Bill Clinton's reputation was severed after his affair. I am glad his actions are being publicized; it lets people know how fragile their images are in the political world.
