Monday morning, a twin engine airplane crashed into a neighborhood in Maryland. Most of the damage occurred in two main areas, however once it crashed, one of the wings came off and hit a third home. Marie Gemmel and two of her sons, one of them 3 and the other an infant, were killed in the crash. Her husband and 5 year old son were not home at the time, and this is a tragic loss for the family as well as the community. The blackbox was found in the wreckage, and technicians will start downloading its data in the evening, so it's still unknown what caused the crash. Some witnesses said that they saw the plane coming in, looking a little low, and then watching it crash.
I think it's terrible how we're still having issues with our modes of transportation. Every time we learn something new about our systems and technology, it's usually too late. Only when someone gets hurt do we acknowledge the problem and then begin to fix it. Hopefully though, they'll be able to figure out what caused the plain to crash and keep it from recurring.

I think that it is also alarming that there has been a greater number of plane crashes in the news more recently. I hope that people are making improvement to the airplanes so that these problems do not repeat themselves in the future.
ReplyDeleteIt is terribly saddening to hear that our transportation system has allowed for such tragedies. Hopefully the families affected will receive the support they need.
