Samuel Martin - Trump Strikes NAFTA Deal With Mexico, Threatening to Freeze Out Canada

Trump Strikes NAFTA Deal With Mexico, Threatening to Freeze Out Canada

Summary:
When President Trump joined office, part of his political campaign was to update the North American Free Trade Agreement which regulates trade between the United States, Canada, & Mexico. Renegotiations of NAFTA started in August of 2017, but are now scheduled to be finished before the end of August 2018. Mexico and North America have reached an agreement on the main portions of the deal, but have cut Canada out, because they didn't agree to the recent revisions. Currently this deal will be called the "United States Mexico Trade Agreement", with the same provisions as NAFTA, but the Mexican President and the U.S. Senate Finance Committee Chairman would like for Canada to join the renegotiated agreement.

Analysis:
This article was written by three different authors who collaborated from the United States, Canada, and Mexico to be able to write a story with different perspectives. This article was written today, so most of the information should be accurate, but without the time needed to see how this issue resolves. I agree with the changes made to this pact between the countries, but I believe that this deal would be better off with Canada and Mexico, and that it is not worth the changes to the agreement if we are going to loose a major industry supplier. This relates to the colonization times in US History, when the Iroquois Confederacy was peaceful, they had good relationships with the colonists, but as time went on, the Native tribes started to fight about relationships with different country's settlers. This brought multiple wars among the people.

  1. This is super well written. I agree with the similarities in the Iroquois confederacy and NAFTA, but I sincerely hope that we shall overcome disagreements and the alliance will not separate as the confederacy.
