John McCain was a prisoner of war, senator, and former presidential candidate. After being a prisoner of war in Vietnam and suffering torture for five and a half years, McCain returned to American soil in 1973 with a newfound fervor for politics. By 1983 he had a position in the House, by 1986 a seat in the Arizona US Senate, and by 2000 McCain was running for president as a Republican maverick. He was beat out for the position by Bush, and again later by Obama, but never lost his voice in the world of politics. He continued to serve as a driving force and American face around the world until his death on August 25, 2018, caused by brain cancer.
My opinion on John McCain is that he was a man who made many good decisions, many mistakes, but nevertheless always tried to do his best for America. Although argumentative and at times difficult, his stubborness manifested itself as passion and determination that helped him travel around the world at the age of 80. Much like George Washington John McCain was a war hero who went on to become a prominent political figure who made history. He was not a perfect man, but he tried his best to be honorable, and that in itself is an honorable feat.
