Analysis: Selena isn't the only artist that has been put on the "bad side" of China. Maroon 5, Bon Jovi, and Linkin Park have also been banned from China. It's a little ridiculous if you ask me. If the Dalai Lama and the Chinese government wouldn't have had that little incident, or they both decided to build a bridge and get over it then they wouldn't be loosing talent that are willing to go there.

Selena Gomez's instagram post offends Chinese government (Angelique Flores 9th)
Summary: Selena Gomez posted a picture two years ago of her and the Dalai Lama, a religious leader in Tibet. Because of her posting those pictures she has been banned from China. Her Revival tour has been canceled in areas of China. She has since then Deleted the picture of her and the Dalai, but that hasn't changed how China feels about the entire situation. There has been tensions between the Chinese government and the Dalai Lama since 1959 when the Dalai flew to India after an unsuccessful revolt against the Chinese government.

Yeah I think that this whole situation has been really blown out of proportion by the Chinese government. Selena Gomez obviously has no bad intentions towards China, so it is unnecessary to ban her. If the Chinese government continues to do this, I think it could cause discontent among the Chinese people.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you in that the situation is pretty ridiculous. None of these celebrities have bad intentions when posting photos with the Dalai Lama, I think the Chinese government is juts slightly hyper sensitive.
ReplyDeleteOnce they ban Linkin Park, they are no longer a country I view as relevant. China can stop being our trade ally whenever they please if they don't appreciate American culture.

As far as political issues go, such as the tension between China and the Dalai Lama, it is ridiculous how sensitive China is about this stuff but it is understandable. Despite our thoughts on this, China has the power to ban anyone they want to from their borders.
ReplyDeleteP.S. Despite how much we might not want to admit it, we would be horribly screwed if China stopped trading with us.

I agree that it is pretty extreme measure from the Chinese government. It's not like Gomez deliberately tried to offend the Chinese government.

It's not like they knew they were having problems. The Chinese government is wrong for putting the blame on these celebrity's and for making the fans who were very excited to see them live sad.
