After celebrating Cinco de Mayo, 25 year old Benjamin Mittendorf returned to his mother's house. He had been drinking and got into an argument with his older brother Nicholas over a cheeseburger. The fight elevated and Benjamin shot Nicholas in the chest.
Nicholas died and Benjamin is currently in jail facing homicide charges. The saddest part of this story to me is that it happened just days before Mother's Day. Their mom witnessed the whole thing and had to make the 911 call. Now she is left to mourn her dead son on a holiday celebrating motherhood.
Drinking combined with impulsive actions combined with access to guns were at the root of this fatal argument, and it all could have been prevented.
When people say they don't need restrictions on guns then you turn around and we got people doing stuff like this, it makes me wonder are they really thinking about the power of a gun. I mean like with swords it was like you had to actually know how to use it and train to be able to kill somebody but guns are easier to use, automatic and even deadlier.

ReplyDeleteIt is truly tragic for a mother to lose one son to a meaningless argument and another to jail, but why would people go so far to have an all out fight over a cheesburger.
This fight is absurd. A piece of junk food led to the death of a human being. I feel like a lot of things like this are happening these days. We should not be losing people over stupid things.
ReplyDeleteAngelique Flores 9th- could he not just buy another freaking burger? It sounds like this man had some very serious anger issues that should've been taken care of/
ReplyDeleteThis is really a horrible story. This man needs to go to rehab and get some therapy because people should not do this to each other. Additionally, someone who drinks excessively and has anger issues should not be able to have a gun. It is just common sense that this point.
ReplyDeleteI think this is ridiculous. A cheeseburger? The combination of alcohol and easy access to a gun is fatal and shouldn't be so easily accessible to people. Obviously drinking is a personal choice, however gun control is all up to the federal government and should implemented in order to prevent occurrences like this.
ReplyDeleteWe read yet another story where gun control, or lack there of, has taken one more life and devastated the ones around it. When will enough be enough? We need tighter gun control laws now.
ReplyDeleteIt's a shame how this mother spent Mother's Day and how her son was killed.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a shocking and devastating article. My heart goes out to the mother; I can't imagine how she must be feeling! -Nicole Chatham 6th period
