Luz Lopez(4th period)- Why we fear Friday the 13th

Why do we fear this Friday out of all the others? Many of us react differently to this day. Some of us cancel travel arrangements and doctor's appointments are canceled. Risky things of all kinds are put off in effort to avoid tempting fate. One of the main reasons we fear this day is because we fret about the important things in our life: our health, our children, our paychecks and our sports team. Superstitious rituals and lucky charms give us a comforting sense of control over the unexpected. In the case of the lucky superstitions, there is some evidence that belief in luck-enhancing powers can bring psychological benefits and improve performances. If you believe Friday the 13th is unlucky, on average, a couple of times a year you will be forced to consider whether to adapt your daily routine to avoid the prospect of harm.
I personally don't mind Friday the 13th. To me it's just another normal day in the year. This reminds me of when more people were started to became catholics. Some people didn't believe in a God but others did.

  1. I don't believe in superstitions, but it's funny because a lot of unlucky things happened to everyone in my friend group expect me last Friday the 13th (like one who ripped open her cheese powder too fast and got it everywhere including her nose)
