On Monday, President Obama signed a legislation into law that made bison the official mammal of the U.S. Supporters of the law believe that bison deserve to be elevated in American culture, because they held such a high stature in the history of the nation. The number of bison in America has decreased greatly. Millions used to reside in the Great Plains, now there are only 500,000 left in America, however, most of these have been cross-bred with cattle. The largest population of bison in the U.S. is in Yellowstone National Park.
I think its great that Obama has created this law, because bison were very important in Native American culture. When Europeans began populating North America, they killed many bison for food and also because they blocked railroad routes. This increased tensions between Whites and Natives and also caused the population of native tribes to decrease.

I guess this is pretty cool, but shouldn't our government be making more significant changes than deciding what the official mammal is. There are a lot of things that need to be fixed in the US and I do not see how this has really any significant impact on anyone.
