In Mississippi, there is a community that is literally separated by train tracks. On one side there are the white kids and on the other there are the black kids. They each go to their own racially monopolized schools, however, there is a new order to create a single, integrated school and it is being met with a lot of opposition by parents. The majority of the parents do not want to integrate the schools.
I think it is awful that racism and prejudice is still so prevalent today. The fact that the two sides of the town are not comfortable enough with each other to let their children go to school together is very upsetting. It is far too parallel to the cases like this that occurred right after the passing of Brown v. Board in 1954. I will never understand why racism is a thing because its premise so incredibly stupid and ignorant. I understand that it's roots run deep, but that is why we need changes like this so that growing and future generations don't see it as the norm.
