Obama has announced the end of a long held arms embargo against Vietnam. The embargo, which began during the Cold War, and even though relations between the US and Vietnam were normalized in 1995, the arms embargo didn't begin to be lifted until 2014. Soon however, the embargo will be officially over. Some believe that this is because the government is worried about China's military power growing though the administration claims that this isn't true.
The US has held many embargoes over the years, beginning with the embargo of 1807 under the presidency of Thomas Jefferson. Each embargo that the country has had has eventually ended and trade with the company has resumed, as it will with Vietnam.
