To speed up this process, the Department of Justice filed a lawsuit stating that the North Carolina bathroom law "singles out transgender employees" and "perpetuates a sense that they are not worthy of equal treatment and respect." I wholeheartedly agree with this lawsuit. The governor of North Carolina, Pat McCrory claims that he is fighting discrimination and wants to make sure that North Carolina maintains its "long held traditions of equality." McCrory continues to draw this issue out trying to defend it instead of trying to work with lawmakers to fix it.
In the article, Attorney General Loretta Lynch mentions reactions to in history like the ending of Jim Crow Laws that enforced segregation to the court case, Brown v. Board of Education, which established that separate public schools for black and white students was unconstitutional. Lynch mentions that this is more than a fight for public bathrooms. The same goes for Brown v. Board of Education.
