Tamir Rice Shooting: One Year And Months Later,
Case Drags On
by: Tristin Manus, 8th period
Summary: Last year, on November 22, 2014, A police cruiser raced in front of a Cleveland recreation center and rolled up alongside 12-year-old Tamir Rice. One of the two police officers inside the car jumped out and fired his service weapon twice. Rice, who earlier had been flashing around a toy pellet gun, fell to the ground. The death of the young black boy also became the latest example in the national debate over police brutality in minority communities and was a factor in the empowerment of the "Black Lives Matter" movement. One year later, the question still haven't been answered, will the officer pay the price for the impeccable crime he has done to a 12 year old black boy?
Analysis: Justice needs to be served, end of question. Now if this have been a white male in this situation, he would still be alive, and probably wouldn't have been assumed to a danger to anyone else but this a black boy, stereotyped as a thug, dangerous and animal. But the thing is here, they didn't even question him or asked Tamir to explain himself, instead the saw a black boy with a toy gun and shoot and killed him in an instant. It has been a year with no answers nor convictions of this crime. There is video proof that clearly shows the whole entire scene but why does it take an entire year for a child to get justice? This can relate to the Dred Scott vs. Stanford case, it took awhile and an unreasonable time when this case was pretty easy, Dred Scott's owner died and his owner allowed him to be free since he was dying. So here comes this random pro-slavery white male, claiming that Dred is his slave which is incorrect. The supreme court replied, we will not go forth with this case because black slaves are not citizens at all but property, end of discussion. Racism is still alive, it is an underlying factor in everything.
