Julian Randall-Teens who are night owls may struggle in school

Summary: According to Fox4News, studies show that students who stay up late at night tend to have more emotional issues, lower grades, and overall academic struggles in school. Researchers surveyed about 3,000 teenagers from age 13 to 18, and approximately 30% of them went to bed later than 11:30 pm on a school night and 1:30am in the summer time. And these students who stayed up later ended up having lower GPA's than those who received a good amount of sleep every night. However, the summer sleeping times did not seem to have an effect on school performances. Essentially, the reasoning in behind these findings are direct results of academic pressures, after-school activities, and desire for free time. On the bright side, teens who acquire the proper amount of rest, tend to have higher grades and strong emotional stability.

Analysis: This article was written November 14, 2013 at 2:51 pm. I have had prior knowledge to the subject considering I have heard from several adults, teachers, counselors, and academic advisors that kids who get proper sleep will have higher grades. The audience for which the article was written was for students, and could be for teachers and parents. The article as written to simply inform. Its significant because it refers to all students. Which is also an underlying force of its relevance considering it is discussing the educational aspects of todays youth. Although I do agree with what the article is saying I am puzzled as to why nothing has been done to reduce the amount of students who stay up late. I believe that something can be done by someone from the students, to parents. to educational administration.
