Hurricane Sandy by Omar Rivera

Hurricane sandy struck the east coast early this week impacting the whole region. States like New York, New Jersey, North Carolina, and others were highly affected. The storm killed 16 people due to things like fallen trees on them, the flooding, and other things. Over all it was a horrible natural disaster and they seek prayer from everyone.

In my opinion I don't know what I would do if I was ever in a situation like that. Natural disasters really scare because we have no control over them and they really have a huge effect on us when the tear us down with them. I will be praying for all the families and residents that were affected upon Sandy.

National Archives' treasures targeted by thieves by Fredy Medina

Barry landau was a master thief, He stoled thousands of historic artifacts in the united states. He stoled hundreds of documents signed by some of the most famous names in history like George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Francis Scott Key, Marie Antoinette and Voltaire. Barry Landau used his reputation as a presidential historian in order to gain the confidence of museums and other people who had custody of important documents and then still them.

MONTHS! After death and actor is still not burried. Dyamand Dillard

Actor, Sherman Hemsley (better known as George off the hit sitcom "The Jeffersons"), dies from his long battle of lung cancer, but he is yet to be burried. He leaves behind the frustration of where his final resting place will be and  $50,000 estate, in which he left to his good friend and buisness partner, Flora Enchinton Bernal, since, Hemsley was neither married nor had any children. This became an issue and quick, because soon after the death of Hemsley a man by the name of, Richard Thoronton claimed to be the brother of Hemsley. This prolonged the final burrial of Hemsley, because they need to take a DNA test. Why this was needed Ido not know because that shouldn't matter he did NOT leave them anything because he did NOT know them, and I'm sure if he did know them he would've leftt them something. I find it funny how now everybody wants to be related to him after he dies, but where were these same people when he was alive and living? I think they're looking for a hand-out because they knew when he was alive he knew they weren't related, and if they are it might be his 6th cousin. In this case blood is not thicker than mud because they are abusing his death and using it as a crutch for money.

Sandy's Affect on the Race by Clara McLain

This story by Jerry Markon and Karen Tumulty is focused mainly on the affect the storm has on early voting and the voting during Election Day. "If power is still out on Election Day, the areas that could be affected include Philadelphia, where Obama urgently needs a strong turnout in a state where Romney has been moving up in the polls."  The story is also about the way the two politicians are handling the poorly timed natural disaster and their concerns for the people in the areas that will be affected by the storm.

Flooding-in-norfolk-e1351513693519.jpg

The hurricane has caused many campaign events to be cancelled, but others will continue.  At the moment all Obama and Romney can do is stay focused on the areas that they can continue to campaign in, and prepare for what events will take place.

Hurricane Sandy

As most everyone knows the east coast of the US in undergoing an aproaching large tropical storm, Sandy, and there are several preparations people are taking to stay safe. Officials are telling people to evacuate as well as board their windows and doors, and also bringing all their belongings that are outside to the inside. They are also advising citizens to fill their bathtubs up with water, fill up their cars with gas and also prepare their refridgerator. This is supposaly supposed to be one of the largest storms the east coast has had.
This is very scary to me, because if I lived anywhere from South Carolina to Maine I wouldn't know what to do. I hope as many people stay safe as possible, and it doesn't cause too much damage.

Stop Cheating! By LaTerria Whitfield

http://schoolsofthought.blogs.cnn.com/2012/10/25/my-view-cheat-or-be-cheated/?iref=allsearch

125 students at Stuyvesant High School cheated on a very important final exam last spring. Parent were shocked to know thatt 66 of those students used their cell phones to cheat. Whe the students were asked why they cheated they responded "I had no choice". They were not prepared enough for the exam, but they knew that their parents werent going to take a failing grade at the end of the six weeks. Statics say that most student cheat. Even the higher level students cheat. Students feel the pressure of making good grades and are most of the time willing to do whatever it takes to do so. Some parents are more impressed with their childs final grades as apposed to how much they are actually learning.  So whatt would he do? "Cheat or be cheated?"

Police dog killed Vincent DeLuna

A police dog was killed by an unknown suspect back in July. I am writing about this incident because the DPD recently bought a police canine from this agency. The dogs on this agency are amazing. Some of the best trained police dogs one can find. Here is what the article on the source sited said about the incident-

Police in Pendleton, Indiana, responded Thursday night to a report of shots fired. When they arrived, they were met with immediate and "overwhelming" gunfire from the suspect, according to a statement from police in nearby Anderson, Indiana.
The responding officer, Pendleton police Sgt. Shane Isaacs, "was ambushed by the suspect," according to a Pendleton police statement.
Isaacs was shot multiple times in the legs by the suspect before finding cover from the array of bullets, Pendleton police said.
Anderson police Officer Marty Dulworth was also injured from the suspect's gunfire, authorities said.

My thoughts on the election by Carter Brown

My thoughts on the election. Basically I have been raised in a very demotcratic family, so you could naturally predict who I would vote for if I was 18. Obama. For sure. I know there are a lot of other things involved too, but two major things I see as important, are equality (essentially gay rights) and pro choice for abortion. I am not for abortion or against it, I just believe women should have the right to CHOOSE if they want to abort the child they are carrying. In the case of rape, I doubt many women would choose to carry the child for 8 full months, give birth to it, and then have to choose what to do with the child from then on. That's just how I view it. I do not agree with Romney's statements and opinions on making abortion legal, and basically stripping away women's rights.

East Coast Prepares for Storm's Arrival- Natalie Newman

Hurricane Sandy is thought to bring life threatening flooding to New York City. In order to prepare for this monstrous attack, New York City is shutting down transit systems and evacuating certain areas including hospitals and homes. School's have been shut down and many more ample precautions have been set in motion. This hurricane is not only effecting New York City, but other states East of the Mississippi River as well. For example, Lower Manhatten's electrical and steam networks are even being shut down as a saftey precaution due to Hurricane Sandy.

Everyone seems to understand that in order to save equipment, and lives, things are necessarily being put on hold in order to prevent longer time periods without these exigent tools for every day lives; however this is putting people into chaos. Without ways of transportation people may be missing jobs and unfortunately things can not just be put on hold these days. Work must get done, and keep moving at a quick pace. I can not imagine living in an area with the possibility of a life threatening occasion to take place at any given moment. It is important for everyone to remain calm and do what is necessary for their safety, just as the presedent has said.

Crazy nanny kills two children by jonathan landeros

While a mother of three leaves two of her children with a nanny to take one of her 3 year old to a swimming lesson. The nanny decides to stab the two children to death. When the mother arrives back home to her surprise finds her two children laying on the bathtub full of blood and the nanny on the floor near a knife, unconscious though not dead. As people heard two cries and screams from a recognized male and female voice, they immediately called 911.Now Ms.krim, the mother, has made a blog called "life with the little krim kids" showing how she enjoyed them all while she had the chance. The nanny has been arrested and sent to a hospital unknown of her actions to this tragedy.

This lady is crazy!  Her name is ortega, well her last name, and she was 50. Must of been jealous I don't know, but she was nuts. This shows to never trust anyone with your children.

What I think shouldve happened at the 3rd debate...

The new yorker had an article that I think was super hilarious. It basically said that Obama K-O'd Romney in the third debate. At first I thought it was for real! I didn't realize I was on the New-yorker...

http://www.newyorker.com/online/blogs/borowitzreport/2012/10/debate-ends-abruptly-as-obama-punches-romney-in-face.html

I think if this would actually EVER happen, it would be funny to everyone but then again, Obama would've probably had some jail time considering nobody is above the law. Now wouldn't that be an interesting arrest.

Thoughts on the 2012 presidential election

<p>Mitt Romney wants to raise taxes, to some this is alright. But to others this is life changing and not in the good way. The raising of taxes will make things harder for those who already struggle. When i say those who struggle i mean people like small Business owners. They already struggle to make ends meet, why put them in a deeper whole. Mitt Romney had often displayed his views on the rights of wemon, to him won are only good For cooking and cleaning. Think about it why elect someone who is sneaky, Inconsiderate lacks respect for this country let alone the president himself which he had displayed countless of times.<br></p>
<p>Mr. President may not have done every thing he said he would do within his first term, but you can not take his credit away for things he have done. When he stayed he had fix president's bush problems, and make his often System of things that have helped and got us to good position. He had fault for wemons equality, and because of him one of the most ruthless and Dangerous males on the face of the earth is dead (Osama bin Laden). He has giving hundreds of thousands of peoples of jobs, helping people get on their feet. He is not a president that abuses power, when people were killed he did not go into a foreign country and kill because he can. Mr. President wants to find out exactly who did it, so he does not have to kill innocent people. Our president is thoughtful and considerate.

Will you elect him again or will you put a control freak in office, You Choose

6 Years, 6 Scientist by: Jorge Olvera

In 2009 an earth quake hit Italy. It was so terrible. People died and buildings were destroyed! Over 300 hundred people were killed. A huge disaster for everyone in Italy. It marked a horrible day in history. The scientist that did not predict the massive earth quake were commissioned to serve a six year sentence to prison for failing to detect it. Many scientist agree that predicting a earth quake is very difficult, almost impossible.
I understand that many people were hurt and killed  through this, but these men shouldn't this! This event  would've been bad either way. They didn't commit a crime or hurt anybody. Some of their own family was hurt during the earth quake, it wasn't like they got lazy and decided to brush this off their shoulders.

CIA Officer Pleads Guilty In Leak - Paolo Buccino

A former officer for the CIA (Central Intelligence Agency) has plied guilty after being charged with leaking the names of two other agents to journalists. These agents were involved in the interrogation program for high-level Al Qaeda suspects. The officer will be sentenced to 2 and a half years in prison. Back in 2009, lawyers for Al Qaeda suspects were trying to identify the names of CIA interrogators so that they could be brought in as witnesses. This is a problem because revealing the identity of CIA officers puts them at risk of being targeted by terrorists around the world.
The leakage of classified information can have very bad consequences. This country faces very dangerous threats everyday, and you never know what kind of advantage it could give them. It could even inspire more terrorism.

Girl Gone Missing by MDNA- Omar Rivera

A 12 year old in New Jersey went missing since this past weekend. She was last seen at her friends Autumns house. Officials think she might have disappeared on her way home. After investigating intensely they found the dead body of the little girl in a recycling bin. Her parents were devastated and it was a tragic misery for all her loved ones.

I shed a tear while reading this just thinking of possibly losing someone in my family like my little brother like the little 12 year old did. It's not fair at all. The killer should be killed and the state of New Jersey needs to find out who it is. I hope he/she gets found before they do it to another innocent kid.

KKK is Still Active D; -Taiina Ayala

Althoguh one might think the that the time of extreme racist hate crime is over, they are sadly mistaken. Unfortunately racist groups such as the KKK, or Ku Klux Klan, still exist and they are still active. The perfect testimoney to this statement is the recent incident including a 20-year-old African American-Lousianian woman who claims 3 men set her on fire and wrote KKK on her car along with a racial slur. Sadly, crimes like these are still prevelant in Louisiana. Hidden, but prevelant.

I am so deeply disappointed that such things still exist. Lately I've been reading a lot about the Civil Rights Movement; in History, in English, reading "Letter from Birmingham Jail" by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and in my outside reading book, The Other Wes Moore by Wes Moore. I guess it's all just a coincidence that all of these things having to do with the Civil Rights Movement have come up, but I do know that I have gained an insight that I never had before. Reading "Letter from Birmingham Jail" has especially had an impact on me. Of course I had heard of the Civil Rights Movement and of Martin Luther King Jr. but never to this extent. The letter was simply moving. And when I came accross the article about this poor woman, I couldn't help but feel deeply ashamed. Martin Luther King Jr. was such a powerful man. He fought and fought and fought for equality and for racial segregation to cease to exist. And to hear stories like this, this many years later, is a shame. Of course, he did have a huge impact, that is, things have gotten better. But still. This is sad people. I wonder if there will ever be a day were racism does not exist.

In Texas, A Legal Battle Over Biblical Banners- Natalie Newman

New York Times has recently published an article discussing the chaos appearing in Kountze, Texas. The superintendent of  the Kountze school district has been receiving harsh criticism dealing with whether he is a Christian or not. High school cheerleaders and their parent's have sued Mr. Kevin Weldon due to the action of banning Bible versus from the banners they present at the begining of football games. Many people have taken offense by stating that Mr. Weldon has taken away their freedom of religion and private speech; however Mr. Weldon just feels he must follow the law.

This article discusses a topic that which will never be dismissed. Religious toleration is a matter that will always have two strong sides fighting for whether they believe discussing religion in front of a crowd is being ambitious or not. I personally believe Kevin Weldon has done a great job with handling this affair. He has said nothing to offend anyone religiously, and he is acting with respect and understanding towards all parties present. It seems to me he is taking it one step at a time and will continue to do so as this controversy closes in on his career as a superintendent.

Who will you vote for?

Early voting started today! I was reading this article about how they believe Gov. Romney will get the popularity votes. I believe that cannot be strongly determined due to the fact that Pres. Obama may or may not get the votes, because people feel that he is "handy-capping" the unfortunate. Pres. Obama is giving "FREE" cell phones away to people on welfare, WIC, Food stamps, etc. Honestly, I feel that it is not fair for people who don't work (some of which aren't trying to work) get hand-outs, something that is not a necessity, but my parents go out everyday work hard for everything they have, and pay tax's all for their tax dollars to be spent on a CELL PHONE!! It is immoral and out-of-line. Gov. Romney also has his fault by cutting Obama-Care he is really snatching the spoons out of alot of people's mouth's and to those who genuwinely cannot afford their health care it leaves them with absolutely nothing. There is not scientific answer to this question of "Who will get the popularity vote?", but you just have to go by what you think is right for you and your loved one's.

Barack Obama by Vincent DeLuna

Official_portrait_of_Barack_Obama.jpg

Barack Obama is the 44th president of the United States of America. He as born in Hawaii on August 14, 1961. He is running for his second term as US President. Will he make it? His opponent, Mitt Romney has a good chance to beat him. A very large percentage of South east states are going republican but states all over the place are expected to call democrat. I personally hope Obama will win. He had to fix Bush's mistakes and now needs time to make improvements of his own.

Big Tex catches on fire by Carter Brown

I actually read about this on Twitter today, so I figured that I would share it on here. Big Tex, the idol and symbol of the Texas State Fair burned down the other day due to electrical malfunctions. Obviously, something happened that started a spark, thus leading to a fire, burning down the beloved figure. In my opinion, I think it is really sad since he was a historical figure, but he didn't have a lot of meaning to me. I do know a few people, though, who are really sad about it. I pasted a link to he full story below. Source: http://www.kens5.com/news/local/Big-Tex-destroyed-in-fire-at-State-Fair-of-Texas-no-injuries-175077601.html

Raffle for I.V.F. by Clara McLain

In vitro fertilization has become a very common practice, and this blog is about the winner of a raffle contest for the chance to have the I.V.F. treatment free of cost, written by Douglas Quenqua.  Though, the couple is very grateful for their win and their new child, the fact the I.V.F. treatment was raffled seems taboo to many people.  They see it as unethical.  Another woman who won a similar prize was interviewed, saying she is thankful for the win, but asked to be remain anonymous for religious reasons.   So is this raffle unethical?  I don't think so.  If infertile or same-sex couples are unable to afford I.V.F, and there is an opportunity for a free procedure, they should buy a raffle ticket if they want.

Fire destroys State Fair Texas icon Big Tex by Kameron Sims-Washington

On Friday October 19, 2012, the Texas State Fair icon Big Tex caught on fire when  a wire in his jaw malfunctioned and caused an electrical fire. Big Tex was celebrating his 60th birthday. This incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. The fire quickly burned off the 52' foot cowboy's clothes off , reducing him to a frame. After the fire destroyed him, Texas State fair officials took his body away. Big Tex served as a mascot for the Fair for many decades, and many people grieved over his destruction because he was a classic icon for those who attended the fair since they were children. Many people mourned about the Big Tex's "death" and even made a shrine for him at the fair today. Some overreacted and even made a Facebook page about his death or made a sign saying "Gone, but not forgotten". There were no injuries and the fair is still open. The last day of the fair is Sunday.

Elephant vs zookeeper

An elephant of about 2 years of age with 225 pounds pins down a 40 year old zookeeper and leaves her in stable condition. The zookeeper, lucy melo, is now in Royal North shore Hospital recovering from the injury that was caused. I'm glad Lucy is recovering and that she is Still alive. Pathi is a calm elephant as I read the whole article so that's strange.

Meningitis outbreak in steroid drugs - Paolo Buccino

There has recently been an outbreak of meningitis across the United States that was linked to a steroid drug used to treat lower back pain. The drug originated from the New England Compound Center in Massachusetts. They have since been raided and shut down by the CDC for investigation. The last I heard on the news is that there is also a criminal investigation to see if anyone deliberately contaminated the shots with things that cause meningitis, or to see if the manufacturing center was following safety laws. Sixteen people have died, and over 200 have been infected.

Man breaks Sound Barrier Record in space jump-Jonas Portillo

On October 14th Austrian-born extreme athlete Felix Baumgartner has become the first man to break the sound barrier. The 43-year-old leapt from a capsule more than 39km above the earth, reaching a top speed of 1342km/h. THATS FASTER THAN THE SPEED OF SOUND. The altitude he leaped from also marked the highest-ever for a skydiver - more than three times the height of the average cruising altitude for a jetliner.Organizers said the descent lasted just over nine minutes, about half of it in freefall. He travelled 36,529m in freefall for four minutes and 20 seconds before opening his red-and-white parachute and floating down to the desert in New Mexico, said Red Bull Stratos mission record keeper Brian Utley. This is one of the most impossible achievments one can gain. So many thing could have gone wrong. His suit might have torn when he was exiting his space capsule and he might have lost consciousness because of the overwhelming G-force. but everything went perfectly fine. That day is a proud day for mankind.

Mamma Bear: by Jorge Olvera

In the Issaquah school district, a small family of bears were running across the elementary school! People are guessing that the bears were heading out to a creek that is full of salmon. Everyone was safe and no one got hurt. All of the children were excited instead of scared. This event was a good day to practice safety procedures. The event wasn't long, the facility still got everyone fed and recess was all there that day. I'm glad that no one got hurt and hopefully they can figure out a way to keep wild life out just in case the bears come out when everyone is outside.

Skydiver jumps into stratosphere 24 miles over New Mexico by Fredy Medina

The Austrian Felix Baumgartner is the first sky diver to break the speed of sound.
He jumped  near the edge of space 24 miles above earth.
Baumgartner was carried into the stratosphere in a fiber glass and acrylic capsule by an  enormous ballon. His body pierced the atmosphere falling at 700 miles per hour. Baumgartner broke records for the highest altitude manned ballon flight and the highest altitude skydiver.

I'm Gay? Who told you?

Bobbi Duncan was exposed of her lesbianism to her father who is anti-homosexuality. Her father found out about her sexuality through Facebook. This very common this day and age, I think it is dishonorable to keep secrets, but it is also dishonorable to snoop through your child's Facebook. Soon, after he found out he disowned her, this action, made, 21 year old, Bobbi distraught. My opinion on  the situation is simple, yes it would hurt to be disowned from the only people you know, but for the life of me I don't understand why what she did mattered at all, due top the fact that she is TWENTY-ONE! She is a legal adult, therefore, capable of making her own decisions, wether they be wrong or right.

Christian Group FInds Gay Agenda in an Anti-Bullying Day- Natalie Newman

Bullying has existed as early as anyone can remember. However, over the past years it has become increasingly a bigger problem. One of the topics that has caused this increase in bullying, is the debate over the lifestyle of gay people. In a recent New York Times article by Kim Severson, she discusses how the Southern Poverty Law Center founded a program in order to decrease bullying and increase students stepping away from their cliques to meet new people. All of a sudden, people are stating that this program is "a nationwide push to promote the homosexual lifestyle in public schools." The organizers of this group were taken by a surprise when this idea began to spread. They argued that the project's purpose is to fight America's ungodliness, not push the lifestyle of homosexuality.

Being a part of the magnet arts has opened my eyes to being a more open and understanding human being. I believe the people that are criticizing the "Mix it Up" are people who are just searching for something to talk negative about. The project is just to create a more understanding America, nothing more.

Driverless Cars by Omar Rivera

In California pioneers have made it applicable for cars to drive without drivers. The process of driving has now made it easier and "safer". They say Self driven cars are safer than human driving cars, it will reduce the amount of human mistakes. Although it is required to have someone behind the wheel. It is now clear for self driven cars to hit the road in California.

It is crazy to think how technology will take us into a whole different world of unusual things we never thought would be realistic. With self driven cars now in 2012, I mean who knows, maybe all cars will be self driven once our generation turns 50 or so. It's amazing how fast technology is exceeding in our country and others as well.

Skydiver breaks sound barrier in record jump by Carter Brown

I thought this story was pretty cool. Felix Baumgartner, a daredevil skydiver, jumped from a whopping 24 miles up in the air and, while plummeting down to Earth, reached a speed of Mach 1.24, which is equal to 833.9 miles per hour thus breaking the sound barrier. It took him about 9 minutes to make it all the way up, and took about half that time to fall back to Earth. People from around the world tuned in the watch his ascent and descent via the internet. Basically to achieve this feat, he attached a capsule to a huge weather balloon, rode it up, and with the protection of a special pressurized suit, he was able to break, not only the sound barrier, but a world record as well. http://www.idahopress.com/news/national/skydiver-descends-miles-breaks-sound-barrier/article_f64974cb-284e-5c71-b214-2d9b84279038.html

Attacked By Bullies by Carlos Walcott

Preston Deener, a sophomore at Brunswick High School was just about to give an interview with a local television station about his experience about being bullied. Just before he was about to do the interview, he was attacked by bullies. The local telivision station, known as WHAG, was just getting the camera ready to interview him when suddenly, three boys began to start hitting Preston and chasing him across the street. The lady who was about to record Preston was shocked that the boys started bullying Preston, even with her standing there and yelling at them. Preston's mom said that Preston has been bullied since sixth grade and has also been a victim of cyberbullying on the social network, Twitter. Michael Doerrer of Frederick County Public Schools told WHAG that a full investigation is under way. It sickens me to know that there are people out ther bullying kids in the worst ways, and even have the gumption to do it right in front of an adult. It's people like those three boys that cause people to become suicidal or not even show their faces anywhere. Bullying is an issue at every school, and it needs to be stopped. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/10/10/preston-deener-brunswick-_n_1954821.html?utm_hp_ref=anti-bullying

El Paso's TAAKS Test Manipulation- Taiina Ayala

So basically, former El Paso superintendent, Lorenzo Garcia, was sentenced to prison for a testing scandal. The school, which was never outrightly named in the article, had been keeping "low- performance" students from the classroom, especially on standardized testing days. Many students were asked not to show up on testing days so that the school's overall performance would look better, and Lorenzo Garcia would get bonuses for the school's "success." Many students were even transferred to charter schools so that they wouldn't have to "drag scores down." Lorenzo Garcia was charged with "devising an elaborate program to inflate test scores to improve the performance of struggling schools under the federal No Child Left Behind Act and to allow him to collect annual bonuses for meeting district goals."

This whole situation was just so corrupted, just like the world we live in today. Although we may read this stuff and think that it's utterly ridiculous, the reality is, it's happening right underneath our noses. It's sad that many kids had to suffer because of Mr. Garcia's selfishness. I'm glad he's being punished for his deeds. The real underlying problem is WHY were the students "dragging scores down." I'm almost sure it was becasue of bad educators! Instead of putting all his effort into cheating the system, Garcia should have spent more time on getting the education at the level it's supposed to be at so that they wouldn't have to worry about students "dragging scores down." It's ridiculous. That's what the No Child Left Behind Act is supposed to be all about and instead it's just creating more money- hungry monsters. Disgusting. Just what we need. What is our generation to do? We're screwed.

Juvenile Killers Might Get a Second Chance- Taiina Ayala

This article talks about how in June the Supreme Court banned life sentences without parole for those under age 18 convicted of murder. Since then, different state legislatures have set their own rules on this. In Iowa the juvenile has to stay in jail for at least 60 years before seeking parole. Some people say that is not fair because it's pretty much equal to life in prison. In North Carolina, life without parole is not necessary, but an option, with a 25-year minimum sentence for those seeking parole. In
Pennsylvania where there's the most juvenile offenders serving life terms, the minimum is 35 years.

I'm not sure how I feel about this new law. For the most part, I like it. I think people deserve second chances in life. Also, I don't believe that one bad choice or one split second of bad decision- making should ruin the rest of your life, especially when you're so young. Although I don't really agree with this all the time, teenagers' brains are not fully developed. Therefore, we cannot fully understand the consequences to our actoin. Also, as said in the article, "youth are prone to miscalculate risks and consequences, and [our] moral compasses are not fully developed." Sad, but true. BUT on the other hand, I see where other people are coming from who are against this new ban against life sentences without parole for minors. The article gives a specific example of a 15 year-old old girl killed in 1993. The article includes snippets from an interview with her sister. She says the though of the killer, who murdered her loved one, back on the streets scares her. I can see why that would make sense, but I still think everyone deserves a second chance, especially after they've had years and years to think it over and get better. But then again, I haven't had anyone close to me be murdered, so I wouldn't fully understand.

Justice for all by jonathan landeros

A 16 year old girl tells about how she was raped by 8 out of 12 men that shoved her into a car, before taking a final exam. She was hoping to be the first female high-school graduate in her family, and what she received was a scar. They raped her, fed her a pill, and filmed everything they did to her, then just left. Days later her mom found out and striked with pain she too stayed silent, but her father after hearing that they filmed her and threatened to kill her family and show the video the village if she said anything dropped his heart worrying about her daughters reputation. The dad could not take the pain, so he committed suicide by swallowing pesticides, the daughter reacted with that and decided to get justice for herself and other raped victims.

This is a sad story on how a girls  dreams changed to goals she had to achieve for justice for her and others. Her how life changed emotionally and physically losing not only herself, but her dad as well.

Mexico confirms death of feared Zetas cartel leader

Today, Mexico has confirmed that its forces have killed Heriberto Lacanzo a reputed leader of the ruthless Zetas cartel. Heriberto's death was arguably the Mexican Government's hugest takedown  since President Felipe Calderon. Mexican marines killed Lacanzo on Sunday in a shootout in a small northern Mexican town 130 miles from the Texas border. The United States and Mexico combined and offered rewards over $7 million a twist, for his capture. After his death, a group of armed men stole his body from a funeral home even though authorities have already taken fingerprints and photographs to confirm his identity. The Zetas were responsible for for smuggling tons of cocaine and other drugs that help made millions of dollars.

Acid Rain in NY Mountains! VINCENT DELUNA

Scientists in the United States have been closely monitoring New York's Adirondack Mountains for years out of concern that excessive amounts of acid rain are polluting the area and killing off native species. In many rivers, streams, and lakes in the area, the water has become so polluted that plant and animal life can no longer survive in it. The federal government is now preparing a report studying the levels of acid rain in the Adirondacks.  The National Acidic Precipitation Assessment Program's report will say that acid rain remains a problem not just in the Adirondacks, but as far away as Colorado as well. Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan, a Democrat from New York, has proposed legislation geared toward reducing emissions of sulfur and nitrogen from the air.  However, the bill has not been popular in Congress. Environmentalists, especially in the state of New York, are heavily supporting the bill.  They think that the new federal report will convince many that the bill is necessary.

Border Patrol by Omar Rivera

Last week in Arizona, where the border is well known for immigrants trying to pass illegally, had an awful event where a tragedy happened. Two Border Patrol Agents accidentally shit each other for mistaking each other as smugglers. This event ended up with one person dead and one severely injured in the hospital. The setting of Arizona now continues to have a safer and more securely insured by security and watchmen.

I honestly think this is horrible. It seems unreal as well. I don't understand how a mistake so big could have been treated like it was nothing by few personals. It's very disturbing and heart breaking. But glad to know we live In secured country. It's a great way to show the commitment and courage to protect our company.

California Moves to Reduce Gas Prices- Natalie Newman

Jerry Brown is on the move to lower the "record high" prices of gasoline in the state of California. Over night the price jumped 20 cents higher than the already high price of gas. Many people wonder why gas has been the most expensive in Califonia? Well, according to the New York Times Article, "Problems at several refineries in the state have been blamed..." So far there has been a fire to a refinary, as well as a power failure at another refinery. Of course, Mr. Brown has been blamed and told that he should get to work on this issue. He believes that switching to Winter blend gasoline early would be a good idea to lower the price of gas. Before solutions can be made, however, the causes need to be taken note of. The cause for the sudden increase on gas prices is still not 100% sure. Some people say that it could be the result of "malicious and manipulative trading activity" as well as the strict envioronmental regulations. Many people are still in search for the cause of the price increase, and most everyone are still in shock because of the prices. Gas prices are an issue all around the world, however, California has reached the worst of them all.

This article seems to have been written to let people become aware that the questions are being asked, but the questions are not being answered. The author of the article, Michael Schwirtz, seems to be aware of the effect of the price of gasoline on everyone, but he is also aware that the causes of the prices are still unknown. Schwirtz does a good job on persuading people to believe that there are people trying hard to find the cause of the damage.

It's a Bridge?

I don't know if you guys have noticed, but there has been some construction going on by our school. It looks like a bridge with very bright lights. Something out of a movie, like Batman! Above is a landscape of trees and grass and all kinds of little park structure's. I've been watching this come to life for the longest. I saw the workers and trucks moving and digging into a building that has people underneath it. I love seeing my city grow with things like this. It makes downtown look so attractive! Something new to explore with friends or that special someone.Resources:

Large Mammals Increasingly Living in Cities by Fredy Medina

Large mammals have been found near urban areas in the past few years. coyotes have been found just miles away from chicago leading the way to large mammals such as coyotes, mountain lions, wolves and potentially even bears. Animals have been adjusting to cities, because cities don't have predators and it's easy for them to find  food. Coyote attacks on humans and pets have been increasing, but there has been only two confirmed fatal coyote attacks.

11 year old gets a tatoo? Dyamand Dillard

So, the story is a thirty year old women, Odessa Clay, allowed her eleven year old daughter to get a tatoo, which was constructed by her(mother). I strongly believe that this is a decision that was based on her mother's intuition. I don't think there was anything wrong with the girl gettig a tatoo, if her mother approves, but otherwise, I strongly believe that it's not necesary and it was done strictly because she's seen other's with tatoos. I think of it as this children need to be children as long as they can, I don't understand the reasoning of her getting a tatoo in the first place. I believe that if her mother approved then there should'nt be any type of issue because she's gotten her guardian's consent.

Childs Hands Glued To Wall? By Nyla smith

Right in our backyard, a 2 year old girl was beaten repeatedly in her head and stomach by her mother right here in our beloved city, dallas. However, the beating isnt what caught media attention, the fact that the mother glued her childs hands to the wall is what was seen as cruel and unsual punishment. in persecution for her crimes, the mother will face life in prison and her parental rights are clearly being taken. I join others in the thought that this beating unleashed on a child was sad, childish and absolutely pathetic. i hope that he children find solace in time away from their mentally deranged mother. However, this story does make you wonder, how did someone so dangerous, a repeat offender at that, keep custody of her kids for years, just waitng until something explosive like this would happened.

Police Arrest 13 in Videotaped Killings - Grace Young

Four killed in Nigerian Mob Attack

On friday a mob attacked four students in Nigeria. The mob attacked the four students and burned them alive, it was all videotaped and posted on youtube. In the video the four men are laying on the dirt in pain they are bloodied and have tires around their heads and shoulders. Although not all of the mob was identified thirteen of the men were taken into custody of the southern Nigerian Police in River State. Police are not sure why the mob attacked the students, but it is common in Nigeria for mobs to take police business in their own hands. Police do not patrol bad areas during the night in fear of their own lives. I think it is sad that people of any age aren't safe in their own town where they grow up, go to school, and live in. It is even worse that the police are so scared that they do not patrol some areas during the night.

Student ID Trackers: Amanda Garcia

At Anson Jones Middle School, in San Antonio, they have begun something new this school year. They had realized that in the past years they were loosing thousands of dollars on students being late to homeroom and being counted as absent. Since the amount of money the district gives depends on how many students attend class, this was becoming an issue. Because of this they created student IDs that have tracking systems in them. This has saved over $400,000 for the schools.
Apparently this has been a big success to several different districts. And not many complaints, but theres still people thinkings it an invasion of privacy. I personally wouldn't like having these, because I feel like everyone is responsible enough to take care of what they need to do. I think this has gone to far and they should think of an easier way to fix the problem.

Chicago police find about 1,500 pot plants in city by Carter Brown

The other day police happened upon a chunk of land where someone had been harvesting marijuana. Police claim it is one of the largest marijuana farms they have ever seen before. The next duty for the police officers was to chop down the 1,500 pot plants. No arrests had been made as of Wednesday, and police were still trying to determine who owns the property that housed the grow site on the city's far South Side. But police said they were hopeful that because of the size of the operation, informants or others might provide tips about those involved, including a man seen running from the area as the helicopter swooped low. http://news.yahoo.com/chicago-police-1-500-pot-plants-city-075850659.html

Earthquake strikes China by Jonathan landeros

18 children's bodies have been found, after a landslide caused by an earthquake buried an elementary school and a villager in southwest china. Another house had been buried too, but the family of three was able to escape before being in danger. Other parts of china were also affected, killing at least 80, and injuring 731, destroying 6,600 homes,  and about 430,000 damaged. 100,000 people have been evacuated, but another 100,000 are in need of relocation.

This is sad these people didn't even see it coming. One day they are happy and the next its terror and pain striking. I hope they get through the pain they have right now and that others may help them get restored

city-Jonas Portillo

On Tuesday Oct. 2nd,2012.
Chicago police find about 1,500 pot plants in Chicago.
The plants grew even taller than the tallest Chicago Bulls. The farm was the size of 2 FOOTBALL FIELDS, a police officer and county sheriff's deputy in a helicopter spotted it as they headed back to their hangar about three miles away. On wednesday a day after the finding of the farm, police officers became farmers for a day. They chopped down about 1,500 plants of Marijuana. Police officers said that all of it together was worth about $20,000,000. I wish i had that much money. No arrests have been made since police was asked wednesday. And police are still trying to find who owns the property that the plants were grown on.  But police said they were hopeful that because of the size of the operation, informants or others might provide tips about those involved, including a man seen running from the area as the helicopter swooped low. In my opinion this was a good thing, that means alot of marijauna wont be onn the streets and be given to adults and teenagers alike.

Find April by Jorge Olvera

So this little girl named April Jones was abducted from Wales this October 4th. Police as of right now are still looking for her, but the heart warming thing about this is that hundreds of people, volunteers have been on a search and rescue for young five year old April. There has been a man suspected of taking her and has been arrested for questioning. Even though the inclement whether has been going on with floods, people are still helping and searching. They have helped so much that policemen had to ask them to take a break. Hopefully April Jones will be found and returned to her home.

What Body Language Tells Voters- Taiina Ayala

We have all studied the rhetoric of political leaders' speeches (especially if you're in Ms. Tounsel's class.) But what we haven't talked about, or even thought about in my case, is body language! I found this article extremely interesting! Like I said before, I never thought about the gestures given by speakers of any sort, not to mention the president and prosective future president! As I watch the first Presidential Debate, the gestures are all sticking out to me now. I can't help but wonder if they plan these sort of things like they plan their speeches. You guys should check this little article out, it gives examples of the specific gestures that they use, their names, and what they do, what impct they have.

Walmart Moms-Dempsey Payne

The undecided voters in the campaign race are going to make or break either candidates shot. The majority of undecided voters are female (54%) polls show. They are part of the middle class who lives paycheck to paycheck with the knowledge that one unlucky break could put them on the streets. These are also the voters who are most unlikley to vote. Pundits have called them the "Low-information voter". Romney's campaign is banking on snagging up some of these saying, "They sound like voters who are up for grabs. These are encouraging demographics for us,"

The presidential race is such a joke in my opinion. The debates are run by the party leaders and backed by ad funds from some real politically sound companies like Anheuser Busch. The way the candidates talk about voters being "up for grabs" like they're to be won at some arcade is sickening. We're getting closer to a voter rigging system by the day.

New Orleans Prosecutor-Dempsey Payne

Down by joint.
A New Orleans prosecutor was arrested for possession of marijuana after a marijuana cigarette fell out of his pocket in court in front of police officers.  Ryan Berni, the mayors spokesperson said "He was not acting in his capacity as assistant city attorney when the incident occurred." The man had been practicing law for 16 years.

I feel pretty bad for the guy, that is some bad luck. He did bring it on himself but hopefully they handle the matter fairly.

U.S. gathers information about possible targets in Libya

After the death of U.S. ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans, U.S. intelligence claim that the attack was a terrorist planned attack planned by al Queada and the militant targets in Libya could be struck if President Barrack Obama ordered such an action. For weeks, U.S drones have been gathering intelligence for weeks in eastern Libya. American agencies were eavesdropping on insurgent communications. One official wanted to be cautiousness about this situation. While acknowledged that "options are being teed up",  he said "don't think that a final list of who was involved is solid". The official also said that the early listings of targets or personnel is apart of standard target planning and is "highly pre-decisional", noting that the president would have to decide whether to launch a strike or not.  If a strike is launched, against any enemy personnel, the calculations of civilians calculations will be avoided.

Iran not to retreat on nuclear issue - Paolo Buccino

The Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad stated today that his country will not back down on their nuclear rights. He has also said that if his country receives twenty percent enriched Uranium, they would no longer have to try and produce it themselves. Basically the article is about the ongoing negotiations with Iran and the E.U. about the development of nuclear technology in the country.
The President of Iran claims that the production of enriched Uranium is for nuclear power plants and medical purposes in the country. The problem is that many people believe Iran's intent is truly malicious. People suspect the country of wanting to make nuclear weapons, or fear that if they did, they could end up in the hands of terrorists.
This is something that everyone should be aware of. How can we ever really know the true intentions of Iran? What if they really did make nuclear weapons?

He Jumped Off the Bridge by Omar Rivera

An older man was spotted committing suicide. He was getting ready to jump off the Vincent Thomas Bridge in San Pedro. Many phone calls were accepted by 911 before the fatal jump. People were shocked, scared and concerned.

It was really impressive to me to know that many people were caring enough to call 911 because of their concern towards their native fellow. It's great to see our nation to be interacting in different ways. It's sad that we lost an American, but awesome that we know we have many beside us who care about us and are there when we need them. We live in an awesome country.

Obama is a cool dude and so is Cesar Chavez. By Rachel Almquist

Obama has recently decided to make Cesar Chavez's home a national monument. "Le Paz" was the national headquarters for the UFW (United Farm Workers) as well as Chavez's home for over 20 years.
Not only do I think this is a great idea, but I believe that this is long overdue. Cesar Chavez made radical movements in not only the Latino farm workers community, but all the poor and disenfranchised workers. Because of his inspiring message and stand against the people who were oppressing him, millions of people have demanded better housing and more political power.
Obama may not be the best president, but the man sure does understand what the people want. This will be the fourth national monument Obama has designated, and one of many accomplishments this man has made.

Mitt Romney: Biggest Idiot Alive! By Rachel Almquist

HERE WE GO AGAIN GUYS, ROMNEY HAS MADE ANOTHER GENIUS STATEMENT!!

"I oppose marijuana being used for recreational purposes and I believe the federal law should prohibit the recreational use of marijuana," said Mitt Romney in a interview with The Denver Post. This guy has stated that he is going to fight the legalization of pot "tooth and nail" and opposes any legalization of any drug for any use.
Now, I'm no doctor but I know enough to say that weed (used for medicinal purposes) is not THAT harmful. Many people use it (legally, of course) to help the amelioration of nausea and vomiting, stimulation of hunger in chemotherapy and AIDS patients, lowered intraocular eye pressure (shown to be effective for treating glaucoma), as well as gastrointestinal illness. Marijuana also makes hemp, which comes from sativa variety. Hemp has many important uses, and makes pretty nice bracelets. It's illegal recreational purposes are pretty enjoyable, and maybe if Mitt Romney smoked a bowl every now and then he wouldn't be such a idiot about things. I mean, really? Does this guy think before he speaks? How is this guy expecting the whole United States of America to not use marijuana? Does he want everyone who needs it to become some pill popping junkie? Does he know the destruction prescription painkillers (which marijuana replaces) can do on a persons body? Maybe he'd like to talk to my dead uncle about how terrible oxycotin is, and maybe he'd like to talk to my aunt (suffering from cancer) how much pot has made her life more enjoyable and livable.
I don't know man, if this guy gets elected into office, I'm moving to Norway. or Belgium....

Florida is kind of going off the deep end. By Rachel Almquist

Now, this is not directly related to politics, but I believe this is something worth sharing...
Apparently, a 14 year old girl from Florida is being charged with murdering her newborn child. The girl, Cassidy Goodson, gave birth to the baby in her bathroom and strangled it shortly after giving birth.  She is being charged with first degree murder and child abuse.
My first thoughts were WHO IN THERE RIGHT MIND GETS PREGNANT AT 14, HIDES BEING PREGNANT FOR 9 MONTHS, KILLS THEIR CHILD, THEN LEAVES THE FETUS INSIDE A SHOE BOX IN THEIR ROOM. I don't even want to understand what went through this girl's head, but all I know is that it is ridiculous that no adults in her life kept a better eye on her. It's not terribly hard to tell who is pregnant and who isn't.. Even though this girl is a straight up fool, I don't believe that she should be the only one being punished. The adults in her life deserve whatever sentencing the girl is getting as well. If they hadn't done their jobs as being parents, and raising their own child, maybe the life of another one might have been saved.

Cali Says,"Its Okay to be Gay"

In California it is illegal for parents to send a child to counseling because they are gay. Parents no longer have the right to influence or change their childrens sexual orientation. The governor of California believes that children under the age of 18 should have the right to be themselves and to be expressive. Do you think California has gone too far?

One Nation Under the Gun by Andres Munoz

Following that dark opening-night screening of the latest Batman movie in Aurora, Colorado, it's time to contemplate yet again why America's troubled young men kill so many more people than their counterparts in the rest of the world's more affluent nations. Most wealthy countries don't care much for handguns. They have better things to do. And in Europe, fading tribal memories dating back to the lawless Middle Ages have, at last, largely receded. Americans are different. Our most hazardous epoch is more recent. Popular Western movies and TV dramas refresh robust memories of the great frontier. While that heritage is fading, it still grips many of us. After all, our voluntary and involuntary immigrant ancestors were bold and strong. They survived death-defying trans-oceanic trips, some of them as cargo. Perhaps our frontier complex can explain why so many Americans believe that to properly protect ourselves today, we need guns. I don't get it. Reality has changed. If there's a Native-American menace today, it's casinos. Duels are out. Slavery ended 150 years ago. But guns have sunk truly pernicious roots into our culture. In the first half of 2011, nearly 700 Americans perished in murder-suicides. About 90 percent involved a firearm. Overall, we bump ourselves off at the rate of 30,000 per year using bullets. A total of 110,000 of us are killed or wounded. Plenty of those wounded are in bad shape too, with gunshot victims accounting for 15 percent of all spinal cord injuries. The requirement for a background check reflects the desire by most governments to tamp down today's flood of guns and epidemic of shootings. The National Rifle Association (NRA), which is generously financed by the gun industry, strenuously opposes this civilized public safety policy. That dark duo has many supporters. Take Alaska for example. Sixty percent of Alaskan households own guns, and 20 out of every 100,000 Alaskans die annually from gunshots. In Hawaii, by contrast, only 10 percent of families own guns. And bullets kill just three out of every 100,000 Hawaiians each year. Yet the dark duo still argues that the solution to too many gun deaths is to make sure that even more Americans obtain these deadly weapons. It has persuaded the U.S. House of Representatives to force states with restrictive handgun laws to honor concealed-weapons permits from Wild West states when their residents come to visit. Sort of like drivers licenses. One state that won't care is Florida. In 2010, the Sunshine State prohibited local governments from imposing any of their own restrictions at all on gun-toting, invalidating a host of existing municipal ordinances. As usual, ironies abound, especially since Tampa has banned water pistols from the streets outside the upcoming Republican National Convention. Thus you will be able to pack real heat out there, but not your super soaker. Fortunately, the Secret Service is in charge inside the venue. Especially after the Aurora massacre, the GOP faithful will be lucky to get in armed with nail clippers. They'll have to conduct their mayhem out front.http://www.ihavenet.com/World-United-States-One-Nation-Under-the-Gun-in-Aurora-Colorado_ow.html In my opinion part of the problem is the way society portrays gun usage and self protection. Peoples attempt to be safer has only backfired on the U.S.. Guns need to be more strictly regulated or even used only for hunting.

Mars finds signs of ancient streams by Andres Munoz

The NASA rover Curiosity has beamed back pictures of bedrock that suggest a fast-moving stream, possibly waist-deep, once flowed on Mars — a find that the mission's chief scientist called exciting.
There have been previous signs that water existed on the red planet long ago, but the images released Thursday showing pebbles rounded off, likely by water, offered the most convincing evidence so far of an ancient streambed.
There was "a vigorous flow on the surface of Mars," said chief scientist John Grotzinger of the California Institute of Technology. "We're really excited about this."
Water on mars would be an extreme breakthrough in exploration. It provides evidence to further explore planets and outer space because water on mars would mean that long ago there could have been life. Life on another planet is hard to imagine for people of today's world because everyone is so obsessed with their own life, but in my opinion a discovery of other life forms would break this vicious cycle society has put its self in. Just by knowing that other life forms exist would expand peoples minds and ideas and possibly technology. I believe even more money should go into outer space exploration than already is because if we stop exploring than we stop learning.

Obama Is Bieng Sued By Ralls? Grace Young

Obama Is Being Sued By Ralls?

Ralls is a Chinese company that wanted to build wind farm in Oregon. When the Navy, and the Committee of Foreign Investment in the US who is chaired by the treasurer secretary would not allow them to purchase the land. That is when Obama steps in and backs up the Navy and the Committee of Foreign Investment in the US and says that the it is a matter of national security. Ralls responds by threatening to sew the president. In my opinion the United States government could actually be concerned with the security of the nation, but it could also be a political move against china.

Ex-Football Player gets terribly INJURED by a 6 y.o

After, hearing this story it made me think, "how is such a thing possible?" I feel like this all falls in the hands of the parents, whom which thinks this is obsurd. Why would, Webster, a twenty-seven year old, gym teacher have any reason to lie about his fractured knee, in which your son gave to him. I believe this is why they should allow paddeling back in schools for first-fifth grade, because I feel once they took that out of school that's when the school system went dramatically hawire. I believe if they get paddeling back in the school system once they get to middle school on up to high school we won't have to aquire problems of this sort. I also believe that most of this is just pure home training. Children mock what they see and repeat what they here, something like a parrot. I think that Jorge saw or even heard his parents say something and he took it to school and used is on a teacher. http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/sideshow/nyc-gym-teacher-claims-6-old-student-beat-195314203.html

Rupert Everett Receives Death Threats After Criticizing Gay Parenting

Actor Rupert Everett has lately been getting death threats and hate mail. The reason he is getting all this hate mail and death threats is because he criticized gay parenting by saying, "There's nothing worse than being brought up by two gay dads." Mr. Everett, who is also a gay man, says that his recent comments on gay parenting have made him a marked man. His criticizing comment was said at an interview for the Sunday Times Magazine. Mr. Everett also said that he agrees that everyone should have a mother and a father, not two gay fathers. He knew that others wouldn't agree with him, but he didn't care. He says it's his opinion. I honestly think he should have kept his mouth shut and never said any of that stuff. If you ask me, it seems like he has a problem with gay people, even though he's a gay man himself. He should have expected that he would get hate mail for the cruel thing he said in that interview. As a person who has a few gay friends, I don't feel sorry for Everett one bit. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/09/30/rupert-everett-death-threats-gay-parenting-two-gay-dads_n_1926703.html?ir=Gay+Voices

Ikeas' Saudi Arabian Catalog missing images of women.By Nyla smith

In the ikea catalogs version for saudi arabia, they presented controversy when they erased the image of women in their photos. Ikea has said that they dont necessarily agree with the changes as its a compromise to the companies values. However, with the decision they feel its best to edit out the pictures of women to conform with the common belief of the saudi arabian people. Personally i feel its awful to censor the pictures for such petty beliefs, however when it comes down to sales and profits, how i feel doesnt count for much.
