Recently there was a devastating 7.0 earthquake that struck Alaska. There was lost of damage done, even as far as a road caving in. People seeking for shelter, thing flying off shelfs, and much worse. This event affected many lives and businesses. You can compare this to past earthquakes in history that also caused much damage.

11 Year Old Boy Shot at Sleepover - Sloan Daley
A mother wants to raise awareness about gun safety after her son shot another child while at a sleep over at a friend’s house.
The shooting happened at a home in Corder back in August. While this event happened a few months ago, the topic the mother is fighting for is still very relevant. Melissa Syler, the mother of Camron, is speaking out. She tells her son that these are important lessons she wish she would have taught him sooner, but she rightfully never assumed that her 11 year old son would be in a situation where a gun would be in his hands. This event happened because Camron was over at his friends house with his parent that was a police officer. There was a gun out in the bed and Camron picked it and and did not know what he was doing. The trigger went off in his hand and hit his friend in the shoulder. He was okay and had a surgery and is completely healthy now. Melissa is actively working to make a positive difference to enforce gun laws.
My Source
After so many crazy stories about gun laws and multiple opinions on what to do about them, this is one that I have never heard of. This story reminds me off so many books and movies where guns easily and accidentally go off. Gun laws and gun violence are some of the most controversial topics, but personally I think a lot of this story was the parents fault for the leaving a gun on their bed.

The article i chose is about the devastation from the 2018 hurricane season, lingers in communities across the southeast. But in one town, a group of students found a way to turn their own misfortune into help for those in need. When Hurricane Michael, swept over the Central Virginia town of Farmville, Hampden-Sydney College was left uncovered in uprooted trees. Some boys decided that they should turn the trees into firewood for families that need it during the winter. Mike Stallings, the manager of construction, offered to use his own equipment. After spending nearly a day cutting the trees into firewood, the churches and other volunteers distributed the firewood throughout the community.
This, i feel, is a heart-warming event. It was satisfactory of the boys to offer their help and energy to the community, especially after Hurricane Michael happening and people already being set back by it. It relates to history because of in August 23, 2005 when Hurricane Katrina occurred in Louisiana, New Orleans, Mississippi and other places. I know that because of the huger number of casualties and the setback of this event, that they would have definitely been in need of some people to be able to help out.

The article i chose is about a man Patrick Smith, "who was the type to always lend a helping hand", said his wife Elizabeth Smith. It wasn't out of the ordinary that he went to go check on the means of a house of a concerned next door neighbor who heard noises outside her home. Smith, 41, was shot multiple times by an alleged burglar running from officers. He spent the next eight days in the hospital, said his wife, and died on Thanksgiving day. The incident begin when the police received a call about a burglar. Meanwhile a different neighbor called their house because they heard multiple gunshot from a nearby home. When the police arrived, they chased two boys on foot to the back of the home and lost them. Smith was shot after walking to the side of the home and being confronted by one of the boys.
This is a despairing and shocking event that has happened. To think that Smith got shot and suffered/died because he was just being a concerned and checking on his neighbors. It's a coincidence that there was two phone calls about different events but happened at the same time to cause Smith to even leave his house. If he hadn't of been concerned and helping, he might not have lost his life, but if he didn't someone else could have lost theirs. This relates to history because of an incident in January 19, 2010 where Christopher Speight, 39, kills eight people at a house in Virginia. He surrenders to the police at the scene the next morning.

The article i chose is about screenwriter, Terry Rossio who apologized for using a racial slur during a twitter discussion. The tweet is deleted, but it said "My heart goes out to all the parents of vaccine damaged children, who have to not only endure the sadness of their loss, but also the vitriol of ill-informed and insensitive people (such as those here). Anti-Vax is equivalent to calling someone a nigger and makes as little sense." The writer of films, Shrek and aladdin found himself coming under fire for the comment. In a later tweet he says that "It was a mistake" and he's "sorry". He went on to say that he now knows that the word held no place in the conversation and was not needed.
I do agree with the fact that he shouldn't have used the word and he could have used another analogy for his argument or comment. It was very unnecessary and uncalled for. He also was being a hypocrite because he was saying on how you shouldn't call people niggers, but he did it anyway. This relates to history because of the many other times that people, famous or related in politics, used this word when it wasn't needed. For example, Colonial Sanders called people niggers said Schnatter, in July 2018. And also when Trump was accused for using the word in August 10th 2018.
KADAR PRICE - The Passing of George H.W. Bush
George H.W. Bush Pasts Away
George H.W. Bush, was a man with many titles like Director of the CIA, Secretary of State, Leader of the Republican Party, Vice President of the United States and President of the United States of America. I say "was" because, our nations former president has passed at the age of 94. He lived a long life and had alot of kids and grankids who have kids, so it's safe to say that the Bush family name will go on for a long time. Our 41st President will be missed, my prayers go out to his family and friends.https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/former-presidents-recall-george-hw-bush-as-a-dedicated-public-servant/2018/12/01/1392faba-f52e-11e8-80d0-f7e1948d55f4_story.html?utm_term=.a400a7cb8188
Samuel Martin - 3 Killed In Chase After Fleeing Border Patrol
3 Killed After Pickup Truck Fleeing Border Patrol Hits Tire Spikes and Crashes
SummaryWhen a pickup truck ran through the border in southern California, border patrol started to chase the vehicle on Interstate 8 because the officers believed that this truck was part of a smuggling operation. The officers reported that they found pieces of the truck on the vehicle barrier, giving them the authority to track down the truck. The truck careened down the highway at over 100 mph, weaving recklessly between cars on the highway until it hit road spikes, flips throwing the 9 people out of the bed, and killing 3 people in total, injuring the other 7 seriously.
Analysis
This article was written on November 30, 2018 in New York City, New York. This means that the information is very current, but it is not very close to the source of the event. I had not heard about this even before i read this NYTimes article. This relates to US History because in 2010, a teenager named Sergio Hernandez illegally crossed the border and was shot and killed by border patrol agents without any substantial evidence against him. The article's audience is all of the United States, but could be narrowed down to those who live near the border. The article was written by Matthew Haag who is a general reporter at the New York Times. This article was written to inform the American public about the current border policy and the events taking place at the border. This is important because citizens of the U.S. should stay informed and up to date on current government policies so that they can make more informed decisions for example when they exercise their right to vote.
