gray breidenbach:Wells Fargo scandal spreads to Prudential insurance

gray breidenbach

Wells Fargo employees appear to have signed up customers for a low-cost Prudential life insurance policy without their knowledge or permission, according to three former Prudential employees who filed a lawsuit last week against the insurance giant.

this is horrible to hear because why is a very successful bank, like wells fargo, deceiving people for money? this just shows us the corruptness in american society. this relates to when bank fraud and other frauds, because you're coaxing them into something they don't know.

Emily Anderson- KKK says they're not "white supremacists"

In a recent article, KKK members are saying they are not necessarily "white supremacists." They believe that America was founded for whites and only whites can run a peaceful country. In a recent interview the members insisted they were not "white supremacists". One man stated, "We're not white supremacists. We believe in our race." This, however, is contradicting because in their rulebook, they state they must maintain white supremacy. They chose to call themselves "white separatists" or "white nationalists" now though.
This article was published only yesterday which is very crazy how the Ku Klux Klan is still in operation today even though it was created 150 years ago just after the Civil War ended. The KKK came about when the African Americans were free, and some white southerners didn't accept their freedom or citizenship. It's crazy to me that they are still in existence today. I believe it's very contradicting to say "whites should be in power" but then not call yourself a white supremacist. It definitely would not be a good idea to have only one type of race in power because then nothing is diverse. Studies actually show that the more diverse a group is, the more innovative and bright that group becomes because it brings different perspectives and ideas together.

Isabella Bruner-F-f-frigid Temperatures From Windy City to Big Apple in Forecast

Summary:
Even thought this seems strange, people in Chicago should start to prepare themselves for a cold winter. "The big story over the next couple days will be the arctic air rolling in. This could bring some of the coldest air of the season . By Thursday, we could be looking at single digest across the Midwest, including Chicago." says National Weather Service meteorologist Frank Pereira. They say that the cold will hit on Friday as they will be lucky if they get low 20s. But, by contrast Alaska will be warm with highs of 30s for Friday. The weather forecasters are warming anyone who lives near Chicago to prepare and brace for the impact.

Analysis:
This article made by Corky Siemaszko on December/12/2016 talks about the unexpected change of a cold front affecting the people of U.S. To me it seems strange as weather has also been very crazy like recently in Dallas and we just don't know what to expect. It's an interesting subject as Global Warming is a very big problem for everyone and with these huge cold fronts many people won't think we have it any more and that people are lying. The world is gradually getting warmer and I think it's so bizarre that people don't believe Global Warming is a problem. This article connects to another weather occurrence that happened is the cold front that we have just had in Dallas. The temperature was around in the 40s and 50s and now today it was around the 70s and 60s.

Emily McDougal - Secret Santa Layaway Debt of $46k

Summary: A small town in Pennsylvania experienced what seems to be just short of a Christmas miracle. A person called, choosing to remain anonymous, and stated that they would pay off every single layaway item in a nearby Walmart. Layaway is a process that allows customers to have their items, but gradually pay for them over time. This gives those who may not be able to afford Christmas for their family a chance to not have to buy all the gifts at once, but rather span the spending over a longer period of time. However, this secret santa payed off the $46, 266 that was owed to the Walmart. "Secret Santas" have done similar acts of kindness in the past, but it has never happened in such small town. The town, Everett, has only 1,700 people, who are all incredibly grateful for such a gift this season.

Analysis: This article was written on December 9, 2016 by Ellie Kaufman, to tell the story of an amazing event in a small town in Pennsylvania. This is such an incredible and kind gift to give to people who may be less fortunate in a place that doesn't usually get recognized. The generosity of this giver is something that is not often seen in our country today, and it's important that we remember the good things that are happening in the world amongst the negative ones. This just shows that amid all the all of the violence in our world, there are positive things emerging.

Synthesis: This reminds me of a WestJet flight in 2013 where the airline gave each passenger their "christmas wish" when they arrived. This story, too, touched the lives of all who heard it.

Hannah Howell- Bana Alabed's Mom Tells Of Life In Aleppo

Summary: An article released on December 11th portrays the life of one family in Syria and how they show the world world how they are living. Mother of 3, Fatemah Alabed tweets updates of her family and what's going on where they live. There is constant war and bombing 24/7 in Aleppo. The Twitter account is under her daughter, Bana's, name and has many striking and provoking videos and Tweets. It has gained a very large following of people concerned for them. In a recent interview over Skype, the mother explains their lack of food due to lack of resources and how they can't even leave their house safely. She tries to give her kids the best life she can, but there's only so much you can do when there are bombs exploding outside of your house.

Analysis: My heart goes out to this poor family. I cannot imagine the fear they have. They are so strong to keep on going like this. I hope that the fighting ends soon so Fatemah and her children can live happy, peaceful lives.

How NASA's black mathematicians multiplied success- Leah Lara

When Hidden Figures is released on Christmas, the story of three women in NASA's "computer pool is finally being told. The movie is based on a book of the same name- and is finally acknowledging lack women's role in putting the first man on the moon. The film focuses on Kathrine Johnson, played by Taraji P. Henson, Dorothy Vaughn, played by Octavia, Spencer, and Mary Jackson, played by Janelle MonĂ¡e. These woman preformed the tedious tasks of confirming the computer's calculations. ( Computers were so new that people were skeptical of their ability.   The movie already has a lot of Oscar buzz, and will be a source of inspiration for young black girls pursuing careers in math and science.

The first women were hired at NASA in 1935 because they were considered more patient and detailed oriented than men. They could also be paid less. In 1941 NASA was also required to respond to a court order prohibiting the racial discrimination against employees. Soon, the recruitment of black women began. It amazes me how the story of these women was never told, but I'm not surprised. The achievements of blacks throughout history is often dumbed down or never mentioned. I'm so happy that this long overdue movie is being released, and hope everyone supports it.
