On Monday evening, the Supreme Court denied a Kentucky Clerk's request to continue to enforce her "no marriage-license" policy while she appeals the trial. The clerk, Kim Davis, stopped issuing all marriage licenses to protest issuing them to same sex couples, as she "has a religious objection." Three same-sex couples sued her after being denied marriage licenses.
It's incredible how people continue to go to great lengths to protest marriage equality in today's society. Many people in America are too stubborn to change their views, change the opinions they grew up with. It's 2015, and many Americans are still against everyone having equal human rights. If Kim Davis wants to avoid same sex couples so badly, I think she should retire, change jobs, or something, because religion is not an excuse for denying people the right to marry. Religion in not an excuse, because there are a whole lot of things people don't agree with in the bible. As soon as the topic of same sex marriage comes up though, it's all about the bible. People shouldn't be using the bible or other religious documents against other people when it's handy. Though same-sex marriage is legal in all 50 states, the fight for equality has hardly started. The struggle continues everyday for the LGBT+ community, but we're making progress. It's awesome that the Supreme Court denied her request, because just a few years ago this wouldn't have happened. Not only do we need to work to solve issues in the LGBT+ community, but also racism and sexism issues that are still so prominent in the U.S. All humans should have the same basic human rights, is that so hard to figure out?

Summary: Last Wednesday the white house celebrated the 95th year of women's equality. Its been 95th year since womans finally had the right to vote which is the 19th amendment. The presidential proclamation was also release last Monday and it celebrates America getting closer and closer to gender equality. President Obama even made a speach about women equality he said "When women succeed, America succeed." I know such beautiful words.
Analysis: I think the author truly believe in women's equality. This was published August 26, 2015. This setting was taking place at the white house. I already knew about the 19th amendment, womans right to vote. Since I knew about the subject it made it easy to understand the article. This is a positive effect on womAnalysisens because given the privileged to vote is just plain amazing. I think its written to to take a look back at history and celebrate a long way we have come.
Californian Hiker Rescued After Being Missing for 9 Days by Isabella Montague
Miyuki Harwood was hiking in California when she left her hiking group to head back to camp to get some more water. On her way back, she slipped and fell, breaking her leg. For nine days she struggled for survival in the Sierra Nevada, eduring frigid nighttime temperatures. If she had not found a stream for water or the shelter she found for the nights, she wouldn't have survived. Her hiking group noticed she was missing, and called in a huge search group to look for her. When they found her, she was exhausted and extremely grateful to be found. She got a warm welcome from her rescuers and was taken to the hospital.
I am very happy that she was able to find temporary shelter and water so that she was able to survive. I wish that in the future hikers would be more careful, and not separate from the hiking group alone, but rather have someone with you. I am pleased with how efficient the rescuers were and how seriously they took the matter, and I hope that other rescuers are as successful as these were.

Alexis Farrell, 5th Period: Suspect Allegedly Unloaded His Entire Pistol in Texas Deputy
Earlier this week on Friday the 28th, a gunman emptied out his entire pistol into Darren Goforth, Harris County Sheriff's Deputy. The victim, Goforth (47), died at the gas station, and prosecutors are claiming that he was found in a pool of blood. Apparently, a 30-year old man, Shannon Miles ran up to Goforth while he was getting gas and immediately shot him. There is no evidence currently as to why Miles shot and why Miles shot so many times. We do know that Miles has a criminal history of refusing arrest and unnecessary conduct. So, the sheriff says that Goforth could have been shot because of the cop car and the uniform. However, the article states that Goforth's wife, Kathleen said, "My husband was an incredibly intricate blend of toughness and gentility." It's hard to believe that kind of man was shot so suddenly.
Although there is no evidence for why Miles shot Goforth, I believe that Miles did not need to take such extreme measures to get his point across. Yes, he might not be a huge fan of law enforcement, but that does not mean he needs to shoot a police officer. There is no indication that he shot Goforth because he didn't value law enforcement, but if that is the only reason, he could have fixed his problems in any other way than shooting an innocent man. Additionally, the article states that Goforth has not had any relations with Miles so this means Miles just shot a man he had never seen before. In my opinion, Miles completely abused his right to have a gun. I believe that a gun should be used by militaries of countries to protect the citizens of those countries. He did not use it for protection, he used it to harm an irreproachable man.

Robert Gilliam, Period 5 "Finally, a University is Offering a Class on How to Grow and Sell Weed"
This is a Vice article about a University that, believe it or not, is offering a weed selling/growing class to their students. The outlook of the writer, Manisha Krishnan, on the subject is more towards the "finally, it's happening" kind of approach. The author of this article points out quotes that, in fact, show their supporting of this issue. Given that there is a very low success rate in this feat, it is almost inevitable that classes, more than just those at Vancouver's Polytechnic University, start teaching these classes, for none other than the ongoing of the industry and it's future success. This point, and many others were presented to me in this article.

Historically, politicians with hidden agendas aren't uncommon. Today, not much seems to have changed as Hillary Clinton's email scandal unfolds.
The controversy began when Clinton's division of personal and professional matters came into question. After going through her accounts, it was discovered that Clinton never even used an official .gov address, she exclusively used her own personal server and email for all governmental business. While this may not seem like a big deal, it's a prompt for questioning of a presidential candidate. And if anything, it's just downright unprofessional.
Over 150 of the emails/documents were classified not to mention the over 3,000 that were deleted prior to her account being searched. Her excuse? That it was too difficult to carry multiple web-enabled devices, it was easier to just carry one. Although nothing Clinton did was illegal, her role in the 2016 election puts her under a magnifying glass in terms of integrity.
Since the controversy came to light, Clinton hasn't made many comments specifically addressing the matter, perhaps digging herself into a deeper hole of untrustworthiness. Based of her professional past, I believe it'd be smart for her to just come clean about all of her wrongdoings, that way she could at least be seen as an honest candidate.

DONALD TRUMP: Why Trump is a chump
Summary: A Washington Post article recently by Chris Cillizza published our reactions to Donald Trump a well know reality TV star announcing his candidacy, by making promises of outlandish nature and rubbing in just how rich he is. Trumps presidential candidacy is a terrible thing for politics, but there is a reason why it is so dangerous. Trump cannot and will not be ignored. He may not be liked by all but he is known and he will not be overlooked. In this article he is described as a bad car wreck that you cannot look away from. The dangerous part is that we live in a media based world, and Donald Trump's announcement got way more attention than most candidates did. But we are looking at him for the wrong reasons. There are very few people that will actually vote for Trump as our next president, but most of us are just watching to see what he will do next.

This Article captured exactly what I think everyone has been thinking about Donald Trumps Presidential candidacy. Its sad that he gets more media exposure just because of how ridiculous his candidacy is, but that's how the world works. I think everyone knows that Donald Trump is not going to be our next president, yet we continue to watch him because it is entertaining. Trump has not done anything since his announcement to make me believe he could ever be our president. His positions on foreign policy, his obvious racism and his ridiculous speech at the presidential debate are all things that reassure me that he will never be elected as president. It is true that some people do support him and for reasons I am unaware of, but I am personally not worried about their influence. As long as Donald Trump keeps campaigning, I have not one doubt in my mind that he will not be the next president of the United States.
