Summary:

A young man, named Terrill Thomas, died from dehydration in a Milwaukee County Jail on April 24, which was nine days after being arrested. Also, other inmates reported that they heard him begging for water. This is cruel torture, and nobody should be treated like this, even if they are in jail. They labeled the death a homicide. The water was shut off in the jail for six days. No one should ever die from dehydration, it is just sick.

The article was written by Ryan Reilly and was posted on the Huffington Post to tell the public of the problems in prisons. This might affect the meaning of the article because we are only getting it from one source. I didn’t know about this article specifically until I read it, but I have heard how some prisoners have been mistreated before and some have died in the past because of diseases, nutrition, and dehydration. This is a negative influence because a prisoner dying is very sad and horrible. The point the article is trying to convey is how we, as a society, need to change because of how certain prisoners are treated. I am not saying to treat them like a day at the spa, because it is prison, but they are people and people have basic human rights. This document is relevant in our lives today because we have to fix this problem of people being mistreated and leading them to dying.

Isabella Bruner-Chattanooga mourns and heals after school bus tragedy

Summary:
Back in June of 2015 a 24-year-old driver by the name of Johnthony Walker, while speeding a corner, flipped the bus into a tree and killed 6 children. The driver faces 6 vehicular homicide charges as several other children were injured and four had to be hospitalized for being in critical condition. This article talks about one of those children's funerals named Cor'Dayja Jones'. At the Saturday funeral, she is seen in photos of dancing or posing in funky costumes or outfits. " She sang with my two daughters every week and was an angel-- a strong, quiet, caring young lady," Wallace said. " She was the embodiment of what we want every child in this community to become." As Wallace isn't the only one who cares for the children as The Woodmore Fund has been donated $112,000. And local citizens have create a memorial of hundreds of balloons, stuffed animals, flowers, candles, and photos.



Analysis:
This article written by Ariana Sawyer on November, 26, 2106 addresses the issue of the tragic death of 6 children due to a bus accented. My opinion on this matter is absolutely horrible. I just can't imagine that many children having to face an issue such as death so early on in their lives as they won't be able to fully recover. I just can't imagine your life going away that quickly, it's absolutely horrible. It makes me scared for public transportation such as the bus that I use to leave school sometimes. People really need to address the issue of safety over children and public transportation.  As another event just like this happened on November 4, 2016 in Springfield NY as a 7 year old girl was pinned under a school bus and died.

Lauren Brady P4 November 27, 2016 Rare Pit Caves Found in China

          Pit caves are depressions caused by water erosion, and 49 have been discovered in China. The beautiful formations are home to rare plants and animals, like the Chinese giant flying squirrel. Because the caves are in the lush rainforests, they are hard to reach, and therefore, intact. There are now efforts in China to preserve the pit caves. There are 130 pit caves discovered around the world, and over 90 of them are in China.

     
          The discovery of the pit caves is a good reminder of the beauty and wonder that has yet to be explored on Earth. It also proves how treating the environment right and protecting it is important because we want to preserve all the natural wonders for future generations. This can be connected to the creation of Yellowstone, the first national park, in 1872, and the establishment of the National Park Service in 1916. Just as the national beauty of America needed preservation, these new caves are natural treasures in China that deserve preservation.

Sophia Jalilvand: What Castro's death means for US-Cuba ties

Summary: Fidel Castro has died. He was an enemy of many US presidents and Cuban refugees, however many others adored him. Cuba is a communist symbol, as they are a small island in the midst of a western capitalist society. Although Castro is a historic figure, the Cuban government has moved on and is making its way to increase engagement with the States. President elect Donald Trump, however, needs to decide whether or not to go through with this. Our relationship with the country has been fragile for quite some time now and we are not sure if our president will shatter that relationship, fix it, or continue it along its current path.

Analysis: I have mixed feelings on this topic; I am both curious and concerned to see what Trump will have to say about this matter, and more importantly, if he follows up. As he is a businessman and not a politician, nobody is really sure how he will approach this picky foreign relation. There is much to consider and with mistakes may come great repercussions.

Mikenzie Moon- "With a cry of 'Viva Fidel!' Cubans begin mourning for Castro"

Summary: Fidel Castro died on Friday, 11/25/16 at 10:29 p.m. at the age of 90. Most Cubans are very sad and grieving their loss.They will mourn his loss for nine days. The flag is waving at half mast and alcohol sales were suspended. In the articles it has different peoples stories how he changed their lives. One man said, "We weren't just poor, we were wretched, then came Fidel and the revolution. He gave me my humanity. I owe him everything." Also, hundreds of students at Havana University gathered and yelled," Viva Fidel!" At the end of the article, it gives some historical background how Cuba sided with the Soviet Union. In 2008 when Fidel gave the power over to Raul because he was not healthy, he warned Cuba not to give into the U.S.

Analysis/Synthesis: This article was written by Nelson Acosta and Simon Gardner and it seems very bias. It seems that they supported Fidel, and it  tells how the Cuban  people are mourning for him. Fidel Castro brought communism to Cuba,  and he disliked the U.S.A. , and what it stands for.  I'm glad I don't live  in a communist country, because I don't believe in communism. The people in Cuba have lived their whole lives with a dictator and don't know life without one.  That's why they're really upset about his death. I feel like the Cubans are similar to the Loyalists in the American Revolution.   The Cubans  supporting Fidel like the Loyalists supported England.

Susan Rice: Coalition forces have seized 55 percent of ISIS territory in Iraq by Macey Kanaman 8th Period

     Summary: According to Susan Rice coalition forces have gained back Iraqi territory from ISIS. ISIS has strong control over the region of Mosul and Rice states it will be hard to get them out. They have built up defense systems which will take time to get through. There is also a complication between the Syrian Arabs and the Syrian Kurds. Both are apart of the group that are capable of isolating Mosul. However Syrian Arabs are more populous in Iraq.


     Analysis: I am really glad to hear that Iraq is getting their land back from this terrorist group. I know this will be a hard battle to fight, but with the help of their community and the will they will persevere. I am synthesizing this to when Mexico wanted their land back from the U.S. after the treaty the agreed upon. Although the circumstances were much different, both Mexico and Iraq felt (and possibly still feel) like their land had been stolen.

lilly anthony- Infant ejected from car is found alive in storm drain

Summary: This past week during the holiday on Friday, an unfortunate car accident took place in Texarkana, Arkansas. An 18-wheeler truck crashed into the side of another vehicle demolishing the car causing it to flip over. Inside was a family who survived, but an 8-month old was ejected from the car at the time of the accident. When the rescuers arrived, they began searching the local area for the baby and found her inside of a drain not far from the crash. Thankfully the child was safe with only a few scratches, but it was such a miracle that a rescuer believed some “divine intervention” had to have taken place that kept the child safe. Everyone was just thrilled that something positive took place during the holidays.

Analysis: This article was meant to share the news of something memorable that resulted in a positive outcome. In such a critical time where society isn’t always assuring, it’s nice for people to know that there is still good around us. Having been published three days after the incident, you can assume that the information shared is valid and can be confirmed from other sources. The author’s point of view is very assertive in understanding what rescuers had to say about the event and sharing with the readers. In U.S history, an event the synthesizes to this would be the plane crash of 1987 with a four year old lone survivor of 156 people.
